High School Basketball
Boys: Christian County edged Henderson County 62-60 in Henderson. Jarvis Irby led Christian County with 15 points, followed by Korey Mosley with 11. Henderson County was led in scoring by Kaleb Duckworth’s 19 points. Christian County is now 5-9 on the season, while Henderson County lost its 5th straight game in falling to 10-8.
Elsewhere: University Heights defeated Hopkins Central 67-52, Trigg County over Caldwell County 93-72, Logan County over Butler County 85-70, Greenwood defeated Russellville 62-52, Union County over Dawson Springs 59-30, Webster County rolled over Crittenden County 73-35, Muhlenberg County over McLean County 60-42, Marshall County defeated Paducah Tilghman 73-58, Mayfield got by Ballard Memorial 51-47.

There’s been a change in the start time for the Christian County-University Heights girls basketball game this Saturday. The original start time was 7:30, now the game will tip off at Colonel Gym at 5:15, with the JV game beginning at 3:30.
College Basketball
14th ranked Louisville was routed at Providence 90-59. Chris Smith led the Cards with 13 points. Louisville drops to 13-4 and 1-3 in Big East play in losing for the fourth time in the last five games. The Cardinals host DePaul Saturday afternoon.
Vanderbilt defeated South Carolina 67-57 behind 13 three pointers in the contest.
Tonight’s games: Second ranked Kentucky begins a two game road swing at Auburn. Tip off at 7, with Countdown to Tipoff at 5:30 on Lite 98.7. Other games in the SEC: LSU travels to Alabama.
College Football
The Courier Journal reports former University of Louisville football coach Vince Gibson has died. The 78-year-old Gibson was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease in April 2010. Gibson coached the Cardinals from 1975-79 and led them to a 25-29-2 mark including a trip to the 1977 Independence Bowl. Gibson also coached at Tulane and Kansas State.
NFL
The Tennessean reports the Tennessee Titans have received permission to talk with Dallas Cowboys safeties coach Brent Maxie about its vacant secondary coaches position. The Titans fired secondary coach Marcus Robertson and assistant Curtis Fuller last week.
NHL
The Nashville Predators picked up a 4-1 against the Colorado Avalanche in Denver Tuesday night. The same two teams play Thursday night at 7 in Bridgestone Arena.

Boys: Caldwell County defeated Fort Campbell 95-83 in overtime, Livingston Central over Reidland 67-59, Bowling Green over Monroe County 81-46.
Girls: Hopkinsville edged Calloway County 54-49, Muhlenberg County over McLean County 49-42, Murray over Heath 78-43, Warren Central edged Edmonson County 41-38 and Monroe County defeated Bowling Green 52-34.

College Basketball
Murray State’s Lady Racers lost to Eastern Kentucky 62-61. Junior Mariah Robinson led the Lady Racers with 19 points. Murray State is back in action against Tennessee Tech Saturday night.
Tonight’s games: Number 14 Louisville is in Big East action at Providence and in the SEC, Vanderbilt is at South Carolina.
Kentucky remains number two in both major college basketball polls this week. However, undefeated Murray State jumped up in both polls, moving to 14 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll and 15 in the Associated Press poll. Louisville is 15 in the ESPN poll, 14 in the AP poll. Syracuse remains at the top of both polls.
Murray State’s Isaiah Cannan has been named the Ohio Valley Conference player of the week. Cannan averaged 25 points last week in wins over Eastern Kentucky and Austin Peay. Cannan had 27 of his 35 points against Austin Peay in the first half. Cannan has won the OVC player of the week award three times this season.
College Football
The Knoxville News Sentinel reports the University of Tennessee is continuing to search for a defensive coordinator. However, the Vols could be close to naming a special teams coordinator. Veteran NFL assistant Rich Bisaccia—who flirted with taking the job in 2009—is reportedly being targeted for the position again. Bisaccia is currently on the San Diego Chargers staff. A source close to the situation says the two sides are reportedly close to reaching an agreement.
NFL
The Tennessean—citing a report from the St. Louis Rams website—says the Jeff Fisher sweepstakes is between the Rams and Miami Dolphins. The former Tennessee Titans coach interviewed with both teams last week about their head coaching vacancies.
The Kansas City Chiefs removed the interim tag from Romeo Crennel as head coach Monday. Crennel replaced Todd Haley near the end of the 2011 season and led the Chiefs to two victories. The Western Kentucky University grad was also head coach of the Cleveland Browns and worked under Bill Bellechik as an assistant with the New England Patriots.
NHL
The Nashville Predators begin the second half of the season this evening with a road game in Denver against the Colorado Avalanche. First puck at the Pepsi Center drops at 8 this evening.

The undefeated Murray State Racers continue to climb up both major college basketball polls. The Racers are 14th in this week's ESPN/USA Today coaches poll and 15th in the Associated Press poll. Both polls still have Syracuse number one, with Kentucky 2nd and Louisville 14th in the AP poll and 15th in the ESPN poll.
Former world number one golfer Tiger Woods announced via his website today he will play his first PGA Tour event of the 2012 season at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro Am February 9-12. It will be the seventh time Woods has played in the tournament, but his first appearance since 2002.
The Kansas City Chiefs removed the interim tag from coach Romeo Crennel and named him as the new head coach today. Crennel was named interim coach when Todd Haley was fired late in the season. Crennel, who had been the team's defensive coordinator, led the Chiefs to two wins. The Western Kentucky University graduate has also been a head coach with the Cleveland Browns.

Kentucky coach John Calipari has his weekly call in show at 5 this evening, followed by Sports Nightly at 6 on Lite 98.7. Kentucky is back in action Wednesday night at Auburn, with pre game coverage at 5:30 also on Lite 98.7.
Sunday scores: Manhattan defeated Fairfield 53-51. Former Christian County star Donovan Kates had one point and two assists.
Women’s scores: Number nine Kentucky defeated Mississippi State 88-40, number seven Tennessee defeated Arkansas 69-38 and number 24 Vanderbilt routed Ole Miss 68-52.
Tonight’s game: Murray State meets Eastern Kentucky in women’s OVC action.
College Football
The Knoxville News Sentinel reports Maryville, TN quarterback Patton Robinette has decided to play his collegiate days for Vanderbilt. Robinette was attending a school orientation at the University of North Carolina Saturday, when he decided to back out of his commitment and head to Nashville. Robinette was Tennessee’s Gatorade player of the year in 2011.
MCDONALD FIRED AS WKU COACH 1.6.12
Western Kentucky University athletics director Ross Bjork has announced Ken McDonald has been released from his duties as men's basketball coach. Ray Harper, who has been an assistant during McDonald's tenure, will be the interim coach for the remainder of the season. McDonald had served as head coach for the last four seasons in his second tenure at Western. He was once an assistant coach on the Hill.
Harper coached 12 seasons at Kentucky Wesleyan and Oklahoma City University, compiling a 342-63 record in that time and won four Division Two national championships at KWC and a NAIA national title at Oklahoma City.
A news conference will be held this afternoon in Bowling Green in regards to Harper's hiring.
Meanwhile, ESPN.com reports the officials who worked last night's WKU-Louisiana game could face a suspension for not calling a technical foul on the Ragin Cajuns for having six men on the court prior to the Cajuns winning basket. Sun Belt Conference coordinator of officials Mike Wood said he watched video of the final possession and could see six players were on the floor. Wood also says he received a call from the game site asking if they could call a technical foul after the game ended.
Wood says it was not a correctable error, but officials could have stoped play before the winning score by Elfrid Payton and called a technical foul if they had counted six red jerseys on the floor. The conference office will review the situation and make a determination what they will do next.
