Christian County High School senior Dylan Waldrop signed a collegiate letter Wednesday to continue his soccer career. Waldrop will play collegiately for Mid Continent University. Waldrop is the second Colonel player to sign collegiately for next year.

College Basketball: Kentucky’s Mr. Basketball will play collegiately in the Commonwealth, as Madison Central’s Dominque Hawkins announced Wednesday he will play for the University of Kentucky. Hawkins, also Kentucky’s Gatorade Player of the Year, led Madison Central to this year’s state championship and was named tournament MVP.   Hawkins turned down offers from several other schools including Western Kentucky and Murray State.

The Louisville Cardinals men’s and women’s basketball teams were honored for their seasons last night at the KFC/Yum Center. A near capacity crowd was on hand to hear comments from both coaches Rick Pitino and Jeff Walz, along with players from both teams and school administrators.

College Baseball: Southern Illinois defeated Austin Peay 10-9, with Murray State winning over Evansville 12-6.

College Softball: Murray State took a pair of games from Bethel 6-0 and 12-1. Former Christian County standout Casey Castile had hits in each game, including a home run in the second game.

Minor League Baseball: The Bowling Green Hot Rods wrapped up their series with Lansing with a 10-1 win. The Hot Rods are scheduled to open a series with West Michigan this evening at Bowling Green Ballpark.

The Nashville Sounds lost again to Oklahoma City 3-1, with the series finale scheduled for this evening at Greer Stadium.

College Basketball: Kentucky’s Mr. Basketball will play collegiately in the Commonwealth. Madison Central’s Dominque Hawkins announced this morning he will play for the University of Kentucky. Hawkins called Kentucky his dream school and had been waiting to see if he would get a scholarship offer.

Hawkins added he’s not worried about competing for playing time with the class of top recruits coming in. Hawkins had offers from several other schools and said had he not gotten an offer from Kentucky, Western Kentucky was second on his list.

The Indianapolis Star reports a second member of Indiana’s basketball team is leaving for the NBA. Cody Zeller is leaving school two years early and becomes the second Hoosier in as many days to declare for the draft. Zeller was Indiana’s leading scorer and rebounder this past season at 16.8 points and 8.1 rebounds. Junior guard Victor Oladipo announced Tuesday he would not return for his senior season.

High School Baseball: Christian County is in action hosting Bowling Green at 6 this evening at Colonel Field.

College Baseball: Austin Peay travels to Southern Illinois and Murray State hosts Evansville.

MLB: The Cincinnati Reds wrap up a series with the St. Louis Cardinals this afternoon at Busch Stadium, while Atlanta is at Miami and Chicago hosts Milwaukee this evening.

Minor League Baseball: The Bowling Green Hot Rods conclude a series with Lansing this evening at Bowling Green Ballpark, while the Nashville Sounds host Oklahoma City at Greer Stadium this evening.

Golf: Final practice rounds and the Par 3 contest are taking place just ahead of tomorrow’s opening round of the Masters at Augusta National. Defending champion Bubba Watson had a hole in one today during his practice round, using a nine iron to ace the par 3 160 yard 16^th hole. The hole has been aced 15 times in Masters history, including twice last year.

BREAKING NEWS:  Kentucky Mr. Basketball and Gatorade Player of the Year Dominque Hawkins has selected where he will play his college hoops.  At a news conference this morning, Hawkins announced he will play for the University of Kentucky.  More on this story comes up later in the day.

High School Softball-Tuesday’s scores: University Heights defeated Hopkinsville 6-0. The Lady Blazers got a complete game from Lexie O’Daniel who allowed just three hits, walked one and struck out 11. UHA improved to 9-3/2-0 in district action, while Hopkinsville fell to 0-13/0-1 in district play.

Other games saw Christian County win over Muhlenberg County 5-1, Webster County defeat Fort Campbell 15-0 in 4 innings, Warren East edged Todd Central 9-8, Franklin Simpson run ruled Logan County 14-0 in 5 innings, Hart County run ruled Russellville 17-0 in 4 innings, Madisonville over Hopkins Central 3-1, Carlisle County over Crittenden County 4-0, Union County over Lyon County 12-0.

High School Baseball-Tuesday’s scores: University Heights defeated Fort Campbell for the second time in as many days, winning 11-2. The win moves the Blazers to 6-2 overall/2-0 in district play-tied at the top with Christian County. Fort Campbell goes to 3-11/0-4 in district action.

Other games saw Christian County defeat West Creek 10-0, Crittenden County got by Hopkinsville 6-5, Logan County over Todd Central 12-1 in 5 innings, Caldwell County defeated Livingston Central 11-3, Trigg County edged Lyon County 13-12, Graves County defeated Webster County 3-1 in 8 innings, Marshall County shutout Mayfield 10-0,

High School Tennis: University Heights met Caldwell County, with the Blazers winning 5-4 in the boys match, while the Lady Blazers won 6-3 at the Ruff Park courts.

College Basketball: Connecticut won its 8^th women’s NCAA national championship, drilling the Louisville Cardinals 93-60, in the largest margin of victory ever in a women’s title game. UConn used a 19-0 first half run to blow the game open after Louisville had a 14-10 lead. The 8^th national title for the Huskies ties them with Tennessee for the most all time.

The father of University of Louisville guard Russ Smith says his son is leaving for the NBA. Russ Smith, Sr. told the Courier Journal Tuesday his son has nothing left to accomplish athletically by staying in school for his senior year.   Coach Rick Pitino has said he would recommend Smith, Gorgui Dieng and Chane Behanan put their names in for the NBA draft. However, after Monday’s national championship win over Michigan, neither Dieng nor Behanan would offer what they have decided to do.

College Baseball: 13^th ranked Kentucky defeated Austin Peay 6-3, while Western Kentucky got a walk off single to defeat 8^th ranked Louisville 6-5.

Games today include Austin Peay at Southern Illinois, Murray State hosts Evansville.

Minor League Baseball: The Bowling Green Hot Rods defeated Lansing 8-3, with the series finale this evening at Bowling Green Ballpark.

The Nashville Sounds lost to Oklahoma City 5-3, with game three this evening at Greer Stadium.

NFL: The Tennessee Titans are celebrating their 15^th year in the Music City, and fans are being asked to vote online for the team’s 15^th anniversary logo. Fans can go to the Titans Facebook page to choose one of the four selections, with the winner to be announced April 25^th.

NHL: The Nashville Predators were shutout 1-0 by St. Louis last night. The Predators return to action Friday night hosting Dallas at 7 in Bridgestone Arena.

College Basketball: Louisville’s women’s team will try to match the accomplishment of their men’s team as they face Connecticut for the national championship this evening in New Orleans. Pre game coverage begins at 7 on News/Talk WHOP.

Speaking of the Louisville men’s team, they asked permission of the NCAA to travel to New Orleans to support the women’s team this evening. However, they were denied the request because the NCAA stated it would be considered an “extra benefit”. Many of the players attended the women’s home games during the course of the season. Coach Rick Pitino said it was a shame the NCAA would not let the team go to the game.

WPSD-Paducah reports on its website Murray State University is in the process of working out a contract extension for coach Steve Prohm. Prohm has three years left on his current deal, but athletics director Allen Ward said Monday he hopes to be able to make an announcement soon about the extension. Prohm is 52-12 in his first two seasons at the helm of the Racer program.

The Leaf Chronicle reports former Austin Peay standout James “Fly” Williams has learned he was part of a fictitious rookie All America team announced in 1973. According to a story published in the Wall Street Journal last week, four students at William and Mary cooked up the fake awards, known as the Leo G. Hershberger Rookie All America team.

The four said they did it because they felt there were too many All American teams. The group named the awards after a fictitious New York sports writer. Williams says despite the award being a fake, he is still proud to be a part of the team.

Golf: European Darren Clarke will not be part of the field for the Masters that begins Thursday at Augusta National after the 2011 British Open champion withdrew Monday.  Clarke pulled a hamstring while on vacation more than a week ago. Clarke has played the Masters 11 times but missed  the cut in his last two appearances.

High School Baseball-Monday scores: After missing six games due to rainouts, University Heights got on the field Monday and defeated Fort Campbell 12-1. Austin Gee pitched a gem, allowing 1 run on two hits and struck out 11. The big inning for the Blazers was the 4^th when they scored 7 times on only three hits. The Blazers improved to 5-2/1-0 in district play, while Fort Campbell goes to 3-11/0-3 in the district.

Other games saw Trigg County defeat Livingston Central 7-5, Caldwell County over Hopkins Central 5-0, Dawson Springs defeated Christian Fellowship 34-24 in 6 innings, Madisonville edged Webster County 4-3 in 8 innings, Henderson County nipped Daviess County 9-8, Calloway County shut out St. Mary 2-0.

College Basketball: The Louisville Cardinals are national champions after rallying from a 10 point first half deficit and defeated Michigan 82-76. Final Four most outstanding player Luke Hancock led the Cards with 22 points off the bench, while Peyton Siva added 18 points and Chane Behanan added 15 points and 12 rebounds for Louisville, who finishes the season 35-5.

Coach Rick Pitino—who was elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame Monday—became the first coach to win a national championship with two different schools.

For the second time in four seasons, Louisville and Connecticut will play for the Women’s National Championship tonight in New Orleans. The Big East teams met once during this season, with the Huskies winning 72-58. Pre game coverage begins at 7 on News/Talk WHOP.

Updating a story we first reported Monday, Kentucky Mr. Basketball Dominique Hawkins of Madison Central will announce Wednesday morning where he will continue his basketball career collegiately. Hawkins is waiting to hear if he has an offer to play at Kentucky, however a number of other schools also are interested including Western Kentucky, Morehead State, Murray State, South Carolina, Purdue and Tennessee Tech.

College Football: Austin Peay returns to the practice field today. The Governors used Monday to review tape from Saturday’s first scrimmage and as coach Kirby Cannon predicted, he saw the defense ahead the offense. The Governors will practice today, Thursday and Friday before their second scrimmage on Saturday.

Minor League Baseball: The Bowling Green Hot Rods defeated Lansing 4-3 last night. The teams have a 10:35 am game this morning at Bowling Green Ballpark.

The Nashville Sounds edged Oklahoma City 1-0 with game two of the series this evening at Greer Stadium.

NHL: The Nashville Predators begin a four game homestand against St. Louis this evening. First puck drops just after 7 at Bridgestone Arena.
