The Princeton Times Leader reported in its Saturday edition the site for the 2nd region baseball tournament has been changed. The tournament will now be hosted by Madisonville at Elmer Kelley Stadium. The tournament was to be hosted by Webster County High School. The 2nd region softball tournament will be played at Lyon County. Both tournaments are expected to begin on Memorial Day, May 27th.

College Basketball: When Andrew Wiggins makes his announcement to where he will play his college basketball tomorrow, it will be done with just family, friends and one media person.
A local writer from the Huntington Herald-Dispatch, Grant Traylor appeared on Kentucky Sports Radio this morning and said only Wiggins’ parents know which school he will choose. Kentucky, Florida State, Kansas and North Carolina are on the short list. The announcement will be made late tomorrow morning at Huntington Prep in West Virginia.
Horse Racing: Trainer Shug McGaughey said Kentucky Derby winner Orb’s final workout this morning in New York gave him “cold chills”, reminding him of the horse’s final workout before the Kentucky Derby. The colt breezed a half mile in 47.18 this morning. The horse is to ship to Pimlico today for Saturday’s second leg of the Triple Crown, the Preakness Stakes.
The Lexington Herald Leader reports the fourth place finisher in the Kentucky Derby, Normandy Invasion, will skip the Preakness on Saturday. The field will likely be 10 horses.
MLB: The Cincinnati Reds are off today, but return to action tomorrow night opening a three game series at Miami. Pre game coverage begins at 5:40 pm on News/Talk WHOP.
National League action this evening has St. Louis meeting the NY Mets, Atlanta is at Arizona and the Chicago Cubs take on Colorado.
Afternoon action in the American League has the NY Yankees at Cleveland for a doubleheader.
The Chicago Cubs have agreed to a seven-year deal with first baseman Anthony Rizzo. FOX Sports reports the new deal is worth 41-million-dollars and includes a pair of club options at the back end of the contract. The 23-year-old Rizzo is hitting .280 with nine homers and 28 RBI this season.
NBA: Playoff action resumes this evening with the Miami Heat meeting Chicago, leading the Eastern Conference semi final 2-1, while Oklahoma City meets Memphis in Western Conference action, leading the series 2-1.
NHL: Two games that will decide series winners take place this evening, with Eastern Conference action having Toronto at Boston and the NY Rangers meeting Washington. Both series are tied 3-3.

College Basketball: The Courier Journal reports the nation’s top high school prospect, Andrew Wiggins will finally tell the world tomorrow where he will play his college basketball next year. Kentucky is one of several schools on the list, along with Florida State, Kansas and North Carolina. The announcement will take place at 11:15 am Hopkinsville time at Huntington Prep School in West Virginia.
College Softball: Kentucky, Louisville and Western Kentucky have all been selected for the NCAA tournament.
Kentucky is the 12 seed in the 48 team field and will host Marshall in the Lexington Regional Friday night at 6:30 Hopkinsville time, with the other contest featuring Notre Dame and Virginia Tech. The double elimination tournament will conclude with the championship game Sunday.
Louisville is the 15 seed and will host IPFW Friday night at 6:30 Hopkinsville time, with the other game featuring UCLA and UAB. The championship game is Sunday.
Western Kentucky will be a part of the Tuscaloosa regional, playing South Carolina Upstate on Friday before host Alabama meets Jacksonville State of the OVC. The championship game is Sunday.
College Baseball: Austin Peay completed a three game sweep of UT Martin Sunday, taking the Ohio Valley Conference series with an 8-0 victory. Murray State lost in its OVC series finale 12-1 at Belmont.
Western Kentucky saw Florida Atlantic score 11 runs in the last three innings and win 12-6. Former Hopkinsville High pitcher Justin Hageman had his best start of the season, going 6 and 2/3 innings, allowing one hit, one run which was earned, striking out five and walking 7. He was not credited with a decision.
College Golf: Princeton native Emma Talley helped the University of Alabama win the NCAA East Regional over the weekend in Auburn, AL. The Crimson Tide won the team event with a 20 under par 544 total. Talley finished fourth individually with a five under par 211. Alabama will advance to the NCAA Championship to be held May 21-24 at the University of Georgia golf course in Athens, GA.
Minor League Baseball: The Nashville Sounds lost to Sacramento Sunday 6-5, with the teams playing game three of their series tonight at Greer Stadium in Nashville.
The Bowling Green Hot Rods defeated Lake County 8-0. The series finale takes place this morning at 10:35 at Bowling Green Ballpark. |

Today's games: Fort Campbell plays a doubleheader at Fulton County, Russellville hoss Owensboro, Trigg County hosting McLean County, Livingston Central hosts Murray, Union County hosts Daviess County, Marshall County hosts Webster County, Caldwell County meets Ballard Memorial and Franklin Simpson meets Heath at the Dreammaker Classic at Marshall County. High School Softball: University Heights is to host the Lady Blazer Invitational today, with the Lady Blazers playing Caldwell County, Franklin Simpson and McLean County. Other games in the event have Webster County meeting Franklin Simpson, Caldwell County and McLean County. The Raincatcher Invitational at Hopkins Central has the host Lady Storm facing Calloway County, Meade County and Assumption, with Calloway County to also play Assumption. Todd Central plays a doubleheader with Russell County and Bowling Green, Henderson County hosts Owensboro Catholic. Members of the Union County softball team were involved in a traffic accident Friday evening when the bus they were in overturned on US 60 in Livingston County. The team had played a game at Livingston Central High School. The mishap occurred around 4:45, with one person being airlifted from the scene, with others injured treated at area hospitals. There were 26 people on the bus at the time of the accident. College Football: Kentucky received a major commitment for its 2014 class Friday, as Conner High quarterback Drew Barker committed to the Wildcats. The 6th ranked quarterback in the nation chose UK over Tennessee and South Carolina. Kentucky wasn't even on Barker's radar when Joker Phillips was coach, but that changed with Mark Stoops taking over the program. Barker said six months ago, he wouldn't had even considered Kentucky. The Courier Journal reports Louisville also received a commitment for 2014 Friday evening, as wide receiver George Rushing of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida became the 12th commitment. Rushing made his pledge one day after receiving a scholarship offer and becomes the 7th commitment from the state of Florida. The Tennessean reports University of Tennessee cornerback Daniel Gray is leaving the program. Coach Butch Jones says Gray is transferring to a school closer to his Florida home. Gray played briefly as a starter in the 2012 season, but missed some of spring practice due to injury. College Baseball: Belmont defeated Murray State 7-2 in the opener of their Ohio Valley Conference series in Nashville, with the teams playing again this afternoon. Austin Peay won at UT Martin 9-5, with game two of the series this afternoon. Western Kentucky lost its Sun Belt series opener with Florida Atlantic7-2, with the teams to play this afternoon in Bowling Green. College Softball: Murray State has advanced to the semi finals of the OVC tournament following a 3-1 win Friday over top seed and host Eastern Illinois. Former Christian County player Casey Castile went 0-3 in the game. Murray State plays Jacksonville State in the semi finals this afternoon. College Golf: The University of Alabama increased its team lead to 14 strokes after two rounds of the NCAA East regional at Auburn University Club Friday. The Crimson Tide tied its own record set in round one Thursday with another 11 under par 277 score to lead Tulane by 14 strokes, with Arkansas and Oklahoma State tied for third.Princeton's Emma Talley followed up her opening round 67 with a one under par 71 for a two day total of 138. The freshman is tied for second individually. The final round of the event takes place today. Major League Baseball: Brandon Phillips had an RBI single and a solo home run in leading the Cincinnati Reds to a 4-3 win over the Milwaukee Brewers at Great American Ballpark. The teams play again this afternoon, with pre game coverage at 2:40 on News/Talk WHOP. St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Chris Carpenter took another step toward his return to the mound Friday, by throwing a pain free bullpen session. The 38-year-old former Cy Young winner's career appeared to be over in February when it was announced he would likely not pitch this season because of chronic pain in his neck, shoulder and arm. However, when his arm felt pain free after playing catch with his son this spring, he was given the go ahead by the Cardinals to try and return. Carpenter has been plagued by injuries which has cost him the better part of five seasons. Golf: The leaderboard at The Players resembles a major championship as Sergio Garcia leads the way at 11 under par, following a 7 under par 65 Friday at TPC Sawgrass. Tiger Woods is one shot back at 10 under following a 5 under 67, with Lee Westwood in third two strokes back of Woods. Phil Mickelson missed the cut after a one over par 73 left him at one over par for the event. |

College Football: Kentucky Sports Radio.com reports University of Kentucky safety Ashely Lowery was released from a Georgia hospital Thursday and is at his home in Covington, GA. Lowery was injured in a traffic accident early last Saturday morning.
College Basketball: Austin Peay is adding a walk on for next season’s team. A news release from the school says 6-6 front court player Josh Ledbetter from Shepherd, Michigan will join the team next season. Ledbetter averaged almost 15 points and 9 rebounds during his senior year at Shepherd High. He had six 20 point games during his senior season.
MLB: The Cincinnati Reds open a weekend series with the Milwaukee Brewers this evening at Great American Ballpark, with pre game coverage at 5:40 on News/Talk WHOP.
Other National League games have St. Louis taking on Colorado, the Chicago Cubs meet Washington and the Atlanta Braves are at San Francisco.

NFL: The Tennessee Titans announced Thursday they have agreed to contract terms with 15 undrafted college free agents. Among those signed include Western Kentucky tight end Jack Doyle and Murray State receiver Dontel Watkins.
