High School Baseball-Today’s games: Christian County hosts Fort Campbell in the first of a two day 8th district series at Colonel Field. First pitch at 6 pm, with the Heritage Bank pre game show at 5:45 on News/Talk WHOP and online at whopam.com.
Other games have University Heights at Lyon County, Logan County hosts Greenwood, Russellville entertains Muhlenberg County, Caldwell County hosts Webster County.

College Basketball: The Kentucky Wildcats open play in the NIT this evening at Robert Morris, with the two teams having one common opponent during the season. Both teams lost to Arkansas, with the Colonials falling in Fayetteville 79-74 and the Wildcats falling 73-60 also in Fayetteville. Tip off at 6:30 this evening, with pre game coverage at 5 on Lite 98.7.
UK did learn Monday if they win this evening, they will host a second round game Sunday at 4 pm Hopkinsville time against either Providence or Charlotte, who play a first round game Wednesday night.
The NCAA tournament begins with first round games this evening in Dayton, Ohio. North Carolina A&T meets Liberty, with the winner to get top seed Louisville in the Midwest Region Thursday in Lexington, while Middle Tennessee takes on St. Mary’s, with the winner to play Memphis in the Midwest Region Thursday in Auburn Hills, Michigan.
Two Ohio Valley Conference teams open play this evening in the College Insider.com tournament. Eastern Kentucky is at Gardner Webb and Tennessee State goes to Evansville.
The field for the NCAA women’s tournament was announced last night. Louisville is a 5 seed in the Oklahoma City region and will host Middle Tennessee Sunday, with Purdue and Liberty in the other game in Louisville.
Tennessee is the two seed in the Oklahoma City region and will host Oral Roberts Saturday, with Creighton and Syracuse in the other first round game.
Kentucky is the two seed in the Bridgeport region and will face Navy Sunday, with Davidson and St. John’s the other first round game in Queens, NY.
UT Martin is the 16 seed in the Norfolk region and will face top seed Notre Dame Sunday in Iowa City, with Miami and Iowa the other first round game.
Notre Dame, Baylor, Stanford and Connecticut were given number one seeds, with Baylor receiving the overall number one seed.
Western Kentucky received an invitation to the WNIT and will host East Carolina in a first round game Thursday night. The winner faces either Auburn or Alabama Birmingham in the second round.
College Football: Austin Peay will introduce its new football coach during a 10 am news conference today at the Dunn Center. He is Kirby Cannon, who is coming to Clarksville from Central Michigan, where he has served as the defensive backs coach for the last three years. Prior to his time with CMU, he was the head coach at Missouri S&T for 11 seasons. Cannon inherits a team that was 2-9 last season and a last place finish in the OVC.
Kentucky opened spring practice Monday, with new coach Mark Stoops saying he is encouraged about this year’s team. Stoops said he thought his team had a good attitude, knew what to do offensively and defensively, but said execution was very, very sloppy. Kentucky has six starters returning on both offense and defense.

NFL: The Tennessee Titans have reportedly agreed to a two-year deal with quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. "USA Today" reports the 30-year-old will be brought in to compete with Jake Locker. Fitzpatrick threw for 34-hundred yards with 24 touchdowns and 16 interceptions last season before being released by the Buffalo Bills.
He replaces Matt Hasselbeck on the roster. Hasselbeck was released Monday and is expected to sign with the Indianapolis Colts today. The 37-year-old is expected to sign a two-year, eight-million-dollar deal. Hasselbeck was let go after failing to agree to a restructured contract. Hasselbeck was due to make 5.5-million-dollars this year as a backup.
NHL: The Nashville Predators conclude a five game road trip this evening at Columbus, with first puck dropping at 6 pm. |
