The University of Tennessee has announced after 38 seasons, women's basketball coach Pat Summitt has been named head coach emeritus. Summitt is the all time wins leader among NCAA basketball coaches with 1,098 wins and eight national championships. Holly Warlick, who has been an assistant for 27 seasons after a playing career for the Lady Vols, will become the head coach. Summitt was diagnosed last fall with early onset dimentia. She will continue to work for UT's athletics department in a variety of endeavors.

ESPN Dallas is reporting that legendary coach Larry Brown has reportedly agreed to terms to become the coach at Southern Methodist. Brown is the only coach to lead a college program, Kansas, to a national championship and win an NBA title. Brown has not coached since coaching the NBA’s Charlotte Bobcats in 2010.

Meanwhile, Kentucky Sports Radio reports Kentucky administrative assistant Rod Strickland will be leaving John Calipari’s staff to join Brown as an assistant coach at SMU.

The former aide and mistress of former Arkansas football coach Bobby Petrino has resigned her position. Jessica Dorrell’s decision to step down Tuesday as the student-athlete development coordinator was mutual. Dorrell will be paid about 14-thousand dollars to settle all matters. Dorrell also agreed she would not attempt to sell or profit from her affiliation with Razorback athletics.

Major League Baseball this evening includes St. Louis hosting Cincinnati and Miami entertaining the Chicago Cubs.

2^nd region All A: Caldwell County shut out University Heights 9-0 and Crittenden County shut out Trigg County 3-0.

Elsewhere: Madisonville edged Marshall County 6-5, Muhlenberg County over Hopkins Central 10-8.

High School Softball

2^nd region All A: Livingston Central defeated Crittenden County 10-0 in 5 innings and Webster County over Dawson Springs 18-0 in 6 innings.

Elsewhere: Christian County over Fort Campbell 15-0 in 3 innings, Todd Central edged Logan County 4-3, Henderson County also won 4-3 over Union County and Hopkins Central defeated Madisonville 3-1.

Two members of Hopkinsville High’s soccer team signed collegiate letters of intent Tuesday. Trey Upton and Houston Stagner will play collegiately for Union College.

Hopkinsville basketball player Lawrence Smith will sign a basketball scholarship today with Lincoln Trail Junior College. The ceremony is at 1:45 at Hopkinsville High School.

College Basketball: It came as no surprise as Kentucky freshmen Anthony Davis. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Marquis Teague and sophomores Terrence Jones and Doron Lamb all announced last night they are leaving Kentucky after leading the Wildcats to their 8^th national championship and putting their names in the NBA Draft.

The Louisville Cardinals were also honored for their outstanding season during a celebration at 4^th Street Live last night. The Cards lost to Kentucky in the semifinals of the Final Four after winning the Big East Championship.

College Football: An arrest has been made in connection with the shooting outside the Lava Lounge in Bowling Green early Sunday which wounded two Western Kentucky University football players.

The Bowling Green Daily News reports Travis Fant is charged with two counts of first degree assault, one count of receiving stolen property-firearm and one count of tampering with physical evidence. Fant is lodged in the Warren County Regional Jail. The players, Tevin Holliman and Ricardo Singh were hospitalized for non life threatening injuries.

NFL: The Tennessee Titans 2012 regular season schedule has been released. The Titans will open the season hosting the New England Patriots September 9^th, and will face the Detroit Lions September 23^rd.   The Titans will also host a Thursday night game with Pittsburgh October 11^th and the New York Jets will come in for Monday Night Football on December 17^th.

The Titans have also announced their 2012 Caravan schedule and it includes a stop in Hopkinsville. Titans players—yet to be announced, along with the Voice of the Titans Mike Keith and mascot T-Rac will be at O’Charleys on Fort Campbell Boulevard Monday April 30^th at 5:45.

NHL:   The Nashville Predators can wrap up their Stanley Cup Playoff series with Detroit Friday night at Bridgestone Arena. Last night, the Predators defeated the Red Wings 3-1 to take a 3-1 lead in the series. You can hear Friday night’s game at 7 on Newstalk 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP.

Minor League Baseball: The Nashville Sounds series opener with Oklahoma City was rained out last night and will be played as part of a doubleheader Thursday night. The teams will play an 11:05 game this morning at Greer Stadium.

The Bowling Green Hot Rods won their 7^th straight game shutting out Great Lakes 1-0. The teams play the series finale this morning at 10:35 at Bowling Green Ballpark

It wasn't a total surprise but the five Kentucky underclassmen Anthony Davis, Terrence Jones, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Doron Lamb and Marquis Teague have all decided to leave the Wildcat program and enter the NBA Draft. Davis is forecast by many to be the top pick in the draft, with Kidd-Gilchrist expected to also be selected in the top five. Todd Hamilton will have more on this story during the Wednesday morning sports on the WHOP family of stations.

Masters champion Bubba Watson has withdrawn from the Wells Fargo Championship. The tournament announced on its Twitter account Tuesday that Watson withdrew to spend time with family. The Wells Fargo Championship will take place at Quail Hollow Club from May 3-6. Lucas Glover is the defending champion.

Johnny Damon is a member of the Cleveland Indians. Damon has signed a minor league contract.  The 38-year-old veteran outfielder hit .261 with 16 home runs and 73 RBI last year with Tampa Bay.  Damon is a career .286 hitter who is 277 hits shy of the coveted 3,000-hit milestone.  He's played 17 seasons with the Royals, Athletics, Red Sox, Yankees, Tigers and Rays.

The Miami Dolphins signed linebacker Gary Guyton today. Guyton, who's spent his entire four year career with the New England Patriots after signing as an undrafted free agent in 2008, registered 47 tackles in 13 games last season. The 26-year-old  Georgia Tech product  has notched  229 tackles, 4 1/2 sacks, three interceptions and three fumble recoveries in 60 career games.
