College Basketball: Kentucky’s Mr. Basketball will play collegiately in the Commonwealth. Madison Central’s Dominque Hawkins announced this morning he will play for the University of Kentucky. Hawkins called Kentucky his dream school and had been waiting to see if he would get a scholarship offer.
Hawkins added he’s not worried about competing for playing time with the class of top recruits coming in. Hawkins had offers from several other schools and said had he not gotten an offer from Kentucky, Western Kentucky was second on his list.
The Indianapolis Star reports a second member of Indiana’s basketball team is leaving for the NBA. Cody Zeller is leaving school two years early and becomes the second Hoosier in as many days to declare for the draft. Zeller was Indiana’s leading scorer and rebounder this past season at 16.8 points and 8.1 rebounds. Junior guard Victor Oladipo announced Tuesday he would not return for his senior season.
High School Baseball: Christian County is in action hosting Bowling Green at 6 this evening at Colonel Field.
College Baseball: Austin Peay travels to Southern Illinois and Murray State hosts Evansville.
MLB: The Cincinnati Reds wrap up a series with the St. Louis Cardinals this afternoon at Busch Stadium, while Atlanta is at Miami and Chicago hosts Milwaukee this evening.
Minor League Baseball: The Bowling Green Hot Rods conclude a series with Lansing this evening at Bowling Green Ballpark, while the Nashville Sounds host Oklahoma City at Greer Stadium this evening.
Golf: Final practice rounds and the Par 3 contest are taking place just ahead of tomorrow’s opening round of the Masters at Augusta National. Defending champion Bubba Watson had a hole in one today during his practice round, using a nine iron to ace the par 3 160 yard 16th hole. The hole has been aced 15 times in Masters history, including twice last year.
