High School Baseball-Tuesday’s scores: Christian County slid by St. Mary 1-0, with St. Mary edging Hopkinsville 3-2, Fort Campbell swept Carlisle County 19-9 and 6-5, Caldwell County over Reidland 7-5, Ballard Memorial defeated Crittenden County 4-2.
High School Softball-Tuesday’s scores: Christian County over Fort Campbell 20-0 in three innings, McLean County defeated Hopkinsville 5-2, Todd Central split a twin bill with Jo Byrns, losing 3-2 and winning 6-4.
Women’s NCAA: Louisville has earned its second trip to the Final Four after a convincing 86-78 win over Tennessee in the Oklahoma City region final. Louisville is now 28-8 on the season and will face California in a National Semifinal in New Orleans Sunday evening.
The Norfolk region final went to Notre Dame who defeated Duke 87-76. The Fighting Irish will face Connecticut in the other National Semifinal Sunday evening.
NIT: Baylor defeated BYU 76-70 in the first semifinal game, with Iowa defeating Maryland 71-60 in the other semifinal. Baylor meets Iowa in the championship game tomorrow night, with pre game coverage beginning at 7:45 on News/Talk WHOP.
Kentucky coach John Calipari announced Tuesday that Clarksville’s Alex Poythress will return for his sophomore season with the Wildcats. Calipari says he was pleased that Poythress would return, saying the coaching staff had only scratched the surface with him.
Poythress released his own statement saying this season did not end like the team wanted it to and he wanted to come back and do what the players wanted to do and win a national championship. Poythress also said he wanted to develop more as a player.
After 16 years, Dave Loos is giving up the dual role as athletic director and men’s basketball coach at Austin Peay. Loos announced yesterday he was giving up the athletic director’s role, one which he had since being named as an interim AD in 1997. Loos will remain the basketball coach for the Governors, a job he has had since 1990. Loos will stay on as AD until a successor is found.
OVL Baseball: The Madisonville Messenger reported Tuesday the Madisonville-Tradewater Pirates have finalized their roster for the upcoming season. Two members of the Pirates are from Hopkinsville, with Hopkinsville High graduates Clayton Smithson and Jarod Perry both playing for the team this summer. Perry plays for Kaskaskia College in Illinois, while Smithson plays for Jackson State Community College in Tennessee.
Pirates manager-owner Steve Fowler also says the Pirates will play two neutral site games in Greenville this season, to gauge interest on bringing a franchise to Muhlenberg County. The games will take place June 30th against Marion and July 10th against Owensboro. The team will also play a July 3rd game against DuBois County at Riverside Park in Dawson Springs, which was the Pirates home until last season.
College Baseball: Austin Peay rallied to beat Lipscomb 6-4. The Governors return to action this evening at Western Kentucky. Murray State lost at Southern Illinois 7-2.
NHL: The Nashville Predators picked up a 3-1 win over Colorado, with game two of the three game home stand tomorrow night against Columbus. First puck drops at 7 in Bridgestone Arena.
MLB: The Cincinnati Reds are back in action this evening hosting the LA Angels, with pre game coverage beginning at 5:40 on News/Talk WHOP.
