Austin Peay State University will begin searching for a new athletics director. Longtime AD and men’s basketball coach Dave Loos announced this morning he is relinquishing his role as AD and will remain on board as men’s basketball coach. Loos said at a news conference it had been an honor and privilege to represent Austin Peay and said he did the best job he possibly could. Loos will stay as athletics director until a new person is hired sometime later this spring or summer.
College Football: Austin Peay practices in full gear for the first time later this afternoon. New coach Kirby Cannon says what has impressed him about the Governors thus far is their enthusiasm and a willingness to work. Cannon says one thing that has impressed him early on is the play of both offensive and defensive lines. The workout takes place in Governors Stadium.
OVL Baseball: The Madisonville Messenger reports the Madisonville-Tradewater Pirates have finalized their roster for the upcoming season. Two members of the Pirates are from Hopkinsville, with Hopkinsville High graduates Clayton Smithson and Jarod Perry both playing for the team this summer. Perry plays for Kaskaskia College in Illinois, while Smithson plays for Jackson State Community College in Tennessee.
Pirates manager-owner Steve Fowler also says the Pirates will play two neutral site games in Greenville this season, to gauge interest on bringing a franchise to Muhlenberg County. The games will take place June 30th against Marion and July 10th against Owensboro. The team will also play a July 3rd game against DuBois County at Riverside Park in Dawson Springs, which was the Pirates home until last season.
College Baseball: Today’s games have Murray State at Southern Illinois and Austin Peay hosting Lipscomb.
MLB: The Cincinnati Reds, Chicago Cubs and Atlanta Braves have the day off, however the St. Louis Cardinals play later this evening at Arizona.
