College Basketball: The NCAA tournament is underway today with games including Louisville meeting North Carolina A&T and Oklahoma State and Oregon in the Midwest Region, while Ohio Valley Conference champion Belmont meets Arizona in the West Region. The transfer rumor mill at Kentucky has started. 24-7 Sports reported last night on Twitter that Kyle Wiltjer may transfer to Gonzaga. Wiltjer was voted as the SEC’s 6th man in the just completed season.
College Football: Kentucky had its second spring practice Wednesday, with coach Mark Stoops noting the practice was better than the one Monday. Stoops said the execution was better and ran at a much faster tempo. Stoops added the offense was more efficient than in the first workout, but stated both the offense and defense need a lot of reps. The Wildcats will put pads on for the first time on Friday.
High School Softball/Baseball: The Kentucky Softball Coaches Association pre season top 25 has Greenwood at number 1, Owensboro Catholic is 2nd, Christian County is 8th, Bowling Green is 10th, with Reidland 11th, Lone Oak 15th, Marshall County 16th and Livingston Central 19th.
The Kentucky Baseball Coaches Association pre season poll has Woodford County 1st, Henderson County 2nd, Muhlenberg County 17th, Union County 18th, Lone Oak 20th, Daviess County 22nd and Bowling Green is 24th.
MLB: Cactus League action this afternoon has Cincinnati meeting Oakland, while the Chicago Cubs will split their squad up today to meet the Los Angeles Dodgers and Seattle Mariners.
Grapefruit League action includes the St. Louis Cardinals facing the NY Mets.
PGA Tour: Play is underway at the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill, with defending champion Tiger Woods among those in the star studded field. Woods has won the event seven times. Nashville native Brandt Snedeker is returning after sitting out the last five weeks due to a rib injury. Danville native Josh Teater is also in this week’s field.
