High School Basketball: The 2nd region girls championship takes place tonight at Caldwell County High School as University Heights meets Henderson County. Tip off at 7, with the Heritage Bank pre game show at 6:45 on Newstalk WHOP and online at whopam.com. The 1st region final sends Murray against Marshall County at Murray State and in the 4th region final at WKU, Allen County Scottsville goes against Bowling Green. The Hopkinsville Tigers head to Lexington today for their appearance in the Boys Sweet 16 tomorrow evening against South Oldham of the 8th region at around 7 pm Hopkinsville time. 1st region winner Graves County meets 3rd region winner Ohio County at 5:30, with coverage of both games on the air at 5:15 on Newstalk WHOP. College Football: The Lexington Herald Leader reports Kentucky’s football game with Mississippi State in the upcoming season will be a Thursday night game in Starkville. The game will be on October 24th at 6:30 Hopkinsville time and air on ESPN. College Basketball: Despite the fact Nerlens Noel is out for the remainder of the season, the Kentucky freshman is one of eight finalists for the Waymon Tisdale Award, given to the top rookie in the nation. Noel played in 24 games before suffering a season ending knee injury against Florida February 12th, averaging 10.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and averaging almost 5 blocks per game. Top 25 games tonight include 2nd ranked Indiana hosting 13th ranked Ohio State, 4th rated Duke hosts Virginia Tech, 10th ranked Kansas State meets TCU, 17th ranked Marquette at Rutgers, 20th ranked Memphis at Texas El Paso, 24th ranked Notre Dame hosts St. John’s. Major League Baseball: Cactus League action has Cincinnati meeting its regular season opening day opponent, the Los Angeles Angels and the Chicago Cubs meet Colorado. Grapefruit League action has the Atlanta Braves playing the NY Yankees.
