SPORTS UPDATE 3/1/12

College Basketball: The Lexington Herald Leader reports the nation’s number one high school recruit Andrew Wiggins is mum about where he wants to play collegiately. Wiggins just completed his two day official visit to Kentucky. He has official visits remaining at Kansas and North Carolina next week.

MLB: Grapefruit League games have St. Louis taking on Houston and Atlanta meets Washington. Cactus League action has Cincinnati meeting Kansas City and the Chicago Cubs meet Colorado.

A reminder that Reds on Radio premieres tomorrow as Cincinnati meets the Chicago White Sox, with coverage at 1:50 on Newstalk WHOP.

NFL: The Atlanta Falcons are shedding some salary from their roster.  The team has released running back Michael Turner, cornerback Dunta Robinson and defensive end John Abraham.  The trio spent three seasons together and helped the Falcons reach the playoffs each year.  The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports the moves will save the Falcons nearly $16-million in cap space.

Golf: World number-one Rory McIlroy is out of the Honda Classic.  The defending champion has withdrawn from the tournament after a difficult first nine holes.  McIlroy posted two bogeys, a double-bogey and a triple-bogey in his first eight holes at PGA National.

McIlroy told reporters in the parking lot that he is "in a bad place mentally."  He later issued a statement apologizing for his withdrawal, saying he is suffering from a sore wisdom tooth that is due to come out soon.
