SPORTS UPDATE 2/28/13

NFL: Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson says he expects to rush for more yards than Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson next season, he also predicts he can make a run at Eric Dickerson’s single season rushing record.

Appearing on ESPN’s NFL Live Wednesday, Johnson said he has always been a confident guy and he believes if the situation is right, he can eclipse the record. Johnson rushed for 1,243 yards and six touchdowns in the 2012 season.

College Basketball: WPSD reported on its website Wednesday that Murray State has lost a basketball commitment for 2013. Demarcus Croaker decommitted so he could take an official visit to the University of Texas this weekend. It’s likely Croaker will end up in Austin next season.

Top 25 games tonight have number 2 Gonzaga at BYU, 3rd ranked Duke at Virginia and 15th rated Ohio State at Northwestern.

MLB: Cactus League games have the Cincinnati Reds splitting their squad today, with part playing Arizona and the other playing Colorado, with the Chicago Cubs hosting Oakland.  Grapefruit League action includes Atlanta playing Philadelphia and St. Louis meeting Miami.

Golf: First round play is underway at the Honda Classic, this week’s PGA Tour stop in Florida. Former University of Kentucky golfer JB Holmes is among those in the field which include world number 1 Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods.
