High School Basketball-Friday scores

Boys: Trigg County takes the 5th district over Lyon County 78-61 and the 7th district championship went to Madisonville, who defeated Caldwell County 52-44.

Girls: Caldwell County wins the 7th district championship over Madisonville 57-50, Todd Central takes the 13th district title over Franklin Simpson 44-37 and Bowling Green wins the 14th district championship over Warren Central 67-59.  Carlisle County edged Hickman County 42-35 in the 1st district championship and Graves County defeated Mayfield 52-41 in the 3rd district championship.

Pairings for the 2nd region boys and girls basketball tournaments will be announced during a meeting to be held beginning at 10 am this morning at Hopkinsville High School. WHOP Sports will be on hand and will have the pairings on our websites and Facebook page later today.

Heritage Christian Academy won the KCAA Region One championship with a 57-36 win over Glasgow Christian Friday night. The Warriors were led in scoring by Alex Walker with 29 points. Walker was named the Region One tournament Most Valuable Player, with Philip Judd and Arron Workman named to the all tournament team. HCA will play in the KCAA state tournament beginning next Friday at Asbury College.

College Basketball

It’s a game the Kentucky Wildcats must win to keep hopes of making the NCAA tournament alive as they host the Missouri Tigers this evening in Rupp Arena. Missouri comes in after upsetting number 5 Florida earlier this week, while the Wildcats are coming off a win over Vanderbilt Wednesday night. Countdown to Tipoff begins pre game coverage at 6:30 this evening on Lite 98.7.

Other SEC action today includes LSU taking on Alabama, Vanderbilt meets Mississippi State and Tennessee goes against Texas A&M.

Former Christian County standout Donovan Kates and the Manhattan Jaspers play Buffalo today. Western Kentucky plays at Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns this evening, with coverage of the game at 7 on Newstalk 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP.

In the OVC: Austin Peay plays in the Ramada Bracketbusters at Liberty, while Murray State entertains South Dakota State this evening.

Top 25 games include 10th ranked Louisville meeting Seton Hall and 14th ranked Oklahoma State plays West Virginia.

Women’s games have Murray State playing UT-Martin, Austin Peay goes against Eastern Kentucky and Western Kentucky plays Louisiana.

College Baseball: Austin Peay defeated Illinois State 9-4, with game two of the series this afternoon at Raymond C. Hand Park in Clarksville. Murray State defeated Bowling Green State 9-7, with game two at Raegan Field in Murray this afternoon. Western Kentucky fell to Central Michigan 4-2, with game two of the series in Bowling Green this afternoon.

College Softball: Former Christian County standout Casey Castille was 1 for 4 with a two run double, but Murray State lost to St. Louis 9-6 in their first game at the Arkansas Invitational Friday. Murray State plays hosts Arkansas and Louisiana-Monroe as the tournament continues today.

NFL: Former Paducah Tilghman standout George Wilson has found a new home. Wilson and the Tennessee Titans agreed Friday on a multi year contract. The free agent was released by the Buffalo Bills February 11th. Wilson was a team captain his last five seasons in Buffalo and started 55 games at safety for the Bills. During the 2012 season, Wilson started all 16 games and ranked second on the team with 95 tackles.

Titans general manger Ruston Webster stated Wilson is a quality veteran player and will contribute to the Titans both on and off the field and bring a veteran presence to the team.

Major League Baseball: Exhibition play saw Detroit defeat Atlanta 2-1 and Cincinnati over Cleveland 11-10.

Today’s exhibition games include Cincinnati playing Cleveland for a second straight day, the Chicago Cubs meet the LA Angels of Anaheim, Atlanta meets the New York Yankees, and the St. Louis Cardinals meet the Miami Marlins.

NHL: The Vancouver Canucks left Bridgestone Arena with a 1-0 win over the Nashville Predators Friday night. The Predators are back in action tonight in Detroit against the Red Wings. First puck drops at 6 pm.
