High School Basketball-Thursday’s scores

Boys: Christian County ended the regular season with a 48-42 loss at Marshall County. The 14-13 Colonels had only two players in double figures, with Quan Poindexter leading the way with 11 points, Jarvis Irby added 10.

Elsewhere: University Heights edged Crittenden County 57-56, Trigg County over Fort Campbell 80-62, Dawson Springs over Christian Fellowship 52-44, Bowling Green over Henderson County 59-49 in overtime, Greenwood over Logan County 71-64, Monroe County won in overtime over Warren East 62-58.

St. Mary over Webster County 71-59, Paducah Tilghman got by Ballard Memorial 79-70, Lyon County edged Heath 60-57, Graves County over Lone Oak 65-58, Calloway County over Fulton City 77-61, Franklin Simpson defeated Glasgow in overtime 73-67, Warren Central over Daviess County 77-42.

Girls:   Fort Campbell over Trigg County 66-46, Greenwood nipped Logan County 42-38, Daviess County over Warren Central 55-37, Glasgow over Franklin Simpson 69-40, Heath defeated Lyon County 48-31, Paducah Tilghman routed Community Christian 80-30, Lone Oak over Graves County 51-44.

High School Football: The Kentucky New Era reports today that Hopkinsville High has released its 2013 football schedule. Coach Marc Adam Clark’s Tigers open the season with Greenwood August 23rd in the Russell Rivals Bowl. The Tigers will face West Creek, TN in the Jerry Claiborne Bowl August 31st, then meet Trigg County in the David Sadler Bowl September 7th.

The Tigers then face Madisonville September 13th, travel to Warren East September 20th before going against Christian County to open district play September 27th.

Hopkinsville then hosts Apollo October 4th, Ohio County October 18th and finishes district play October 25th at Graves County. The regular season finale takes palce November 1st at Franklin Simpson.

College Basketball-Thursday’s scores

Former Christian County standout Anthony Hickey had just three points, but it was Johnny O’ Bryant’s night to shine as LSU routed South Carolina 64-46. O’ Bryant scored 30 points and had 10 rebounds in the Tigers win.

Florida Atlantic defeated Western Kentucky 84-78, 12th ranked Louisville defeated St. John’s 72-58.

In the OVC: SIU Edwardsville upset Murray State 65-60 and Austin Peay defeated Eastern Illinois 71-64.

Women’s action saw 9th ranked Kentucky nip 16th ranked South Carolina 78-74 and Vanderbilt defeated Missouri 62-46.

Tonight’s action includes former Christian County standout Donovan Kates and Manhattan meeting Iona.

25th ranked Kentucky returns to the road tomorrow to play at Tennessee, with pre game coverage at 10:30 am on Lite 98.7. Western Kentucky continues its road swing at Florida International, with pre game coverage at 6 on Newstalk 95.3 FM/1230 AM. Also tomorrow, Purdue meets Indiana, with coverage at 12:45 on Newstalk WHOP.

NHL: Pekka Rinne made 19 saves for his third shutout in four games, as the Nashville Predators blanked the Phoenix Coyotes, 3-0.  Gabriel Bourque, Nick Spaling and Mike Fisher all scored third period goals for Nashville, who has won two in-a-row and are 6-1-and-1 over their last eight games.  The Predators host Anaheim tomorrow night at 7 in Bridgestone Arena.
