Boys: Christian County closes out the regular season with a game at Marshall County this evening. Tip off at 7:30, with the Heritage Bank pre game show at 7:15 on Newstalk 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP.

The Courier Journal reports Hopkinsville’s Jordan Majors is among 35 boys from across the state invited to tryout for the Kentucky All Star basketball team next month.

Henderson County’s Ellie Fruit along with Brittany Vaughn of Bowling Green, Janssen Starks of Murray High and Chelsey Shumpert of Paducah Tilghman are among 38 girls who will go through the tryouts at Georgetown College March 23-24.

The Kentucky All Stars will meet their counterparts from Indiana later this year.

High School Football: The Kentucky New Era reports Fort Campbell has named Anthony Butler as its new football coach. Butler was an assistant, coaching special teams and the defensive secondary under former coach Shawn Berner who resigned last month for family reasons. Butler becomes only the 5^th head coach in the school’s history.

College Basketball-Wednesday’s scores

In the SEC: Tennessee defeated Vanderbilt 58-46. Other action saw 17^th ranked Oklahoma State win over Texas Tech 91-67. Women’s action saw Western Kentucky edge Florida Atlantic 64-61.

Tonight’s games: Western Kentucky is at Florida Atlantic. SEC action has LSU at South Carolina. 12^th ranked Louisville plays against St. John’s.

In the OVC:  Austin Peay is at Eastern Illinois and Murray State goes to SIU-Edwardsville.

Women’s: 9^th ranked Kentucky meets 10^th ranked South Carolina and Vanderbilt meets Missouri.

Kentucky freshman Nerlens Noel is lost for the remainder of the season due to a torn ACL suffered in Tuesday night’s loss at Florida. Coach John Calipari said Wednesday on Twitter that he met with Noel and says he has a great attitude. The injury will likely not continue Noel from his basketball career. Surgery will take place in the next 2-3 weeks, with recovery time between 6-8 months.

The Tennessean reports Conference USA is targeting Nashville as a site for a future men’s basketball tournament. C-USA commissioner Britton Bankowsky told media members during a luncheon that he would like to bring the tournament to the Music City in 2017. That would be the next year Bridgestone Arena would be available to host an event. Middle Tennessee State University will become a C-USA member later this year.

College Football: The Lexington Herald Leader reports one of Kentucky’s 2013 commitments will not be coming to Lexington in the fall. Cornerback Nate Willis released on Twitter that he is going instead to an unannounced Division Two school because of academics.

College Baseball: As Western Kentucky opens its season tomorrow hosting Bowling Green State University, a former local player will be the opening day pitcher for the Hilltoppers.

During the school’s media day Wednesday, it was announced former Hopkinsville High pitcher Justin Hageman will make his first ever opening day start for WKU. Hageman tossed 73 1/3 innings last season with 55 strikeouts and did not allow a run in relief appearances.

NHL: The Nashville Predators look for their second win in as many games as they host Phoenix this evening. First puck drops at 7 at Bridgestone Arena.

PGA Tour: Play begins today in the Northern Trust Open at Rivera Country Club in Los Angeles. Kentucky natives Josh Teater and JB Holmes are in the field.
