SPORTS UPDATE 2/11/13

College Basketball: Kentucky Coach John Calipari was a guest this morning on ESPN Radio’s “Mike and Mike” program. He talked some on the progress of the Wildcats, but again reiterated his stance on wanting players to play two years collegiately before turning pro. Calipari said he is one of a few coaches who favors the two year rule, stating it’s good for the player, good for the NBA and good for everyone involved.

Because it’s a travel day for Kentucky basketball, Coach Cal’s talk show and Big Blue Weekly move to Wednesday night beginning at 5 on Lite 98.7. Kentucky is at Florida tomorrow night, with pre game coverage at 4:30 on Lite 98.7.

Despite losing to Illinois last week, Indiana remains the number one team in this week's Associated Press top 25 poll.  The Hoosiers are followed by Duke, Miami, Michigan and Gonzaga in the Top 5.  Louisville is 12th this week, with Kansas taking a nose dive to 14 after three straight losses.  Oklahoma State is 17th and Kentucky is ranked 25th this week.

Top 25 games tonight include 14^th rated Kansas hosting 10^th rated Kansas State and 15th ranked Georgetown meets Marquette.

College Baseball: The Sun Belt Conference released its pre season baseball poll today, with Florida Atlantic picked to win the league, while Western Kentucky is picked 7^th. The Hilltoppers finished 25-33 last year, including a 13-17 record in Sun Belt play.

MLB: Pitchers and catchers are beginning to report to spring training facilities in Arizona and Florida, with the Chicago Cubs and Colorado Rockies scheduled to hold their first workouts today.

According to "The Seattle Times," Mariners pitcher Felix Hernandez will start spring training as normal despite reports that an elbow problem delayed finalizing his contract extension.  The club says Hernandez will be in Peoria, Arizona on Tuesday as scheduled.  General manager Jack Zduriencik says there is nothing medically preventing Hernandez from first workout for pitchers and catchers on Wednesday.
