High School Basketball-Tuesday’s scores

Girls: A coin flip will determine the top two seeds in the upcoming 8^th district basketball tournament as University Heights defeated Hopkinsville 60-48. LeLe Grubbs led the Lady Blazers in scoring with 18, followed Dennayia Holmes with 17 in improving to 17-7/5-1 in district play. Hopkinsville was led by Haley Cook’s game high 22 points, with Kiki Majors adding 12 for the Lady Tigers who are now 14-11/5-1 in district action.

Other scores saw Todd Central defeat Clarksville Academy 42-25, Caldwell County over Dawson Springs 59-44, Union County over Livingston Central 54-37, Lone Oak over Lyon County 52-22, Webster County over Owensboro Catholic 59-34, Paducah Tilghman routed Heath 77-30, Ballard Memorial over Graves County 53-31, Calloway County over Carlisle County 67-34, Marshall County over Community Christian 82-23, South Warren rolled over Warren East 69-34, Allen County Scottsville defeated Greenwood 69-36.

Boys:   Sixth ranked Hopkinsville won its 14^th game in a row, defeating Muhlenberg County 92-36. The Tigers got 21 points from Jordan Majors and 14 from Jaqualis Matlock in improving to 22-4 on the season.

Elsewhere: University Heights defeated Russellville 79-60, Christian County edged Apollo 69-68, Trigg County over Dawson Springs 75-31, Webster County slid by Madisonville 49-44, Caldwell County over Hopkins Central 57-53, Warren Central over Henderson County 67-57, Paducah Tilghman over Heath 58-57 in overtime, Lone Oak over Lyon County 82-67, Calloway County got by Carlisle County 59-56, Marshall County over Community Christian 62-23, Graves County over Ballard Memorial 72-52, Crittenden County over Union County 57-49, South Warren edged Warren East 57-54, Greenwood over Allen County Scottsville 60-48.

High School Baseball: Christian County High School has a new interim baseball coach. Grayson Crawford was named Tuesday to replace Blake Leach. Crawford led the Hoptown Hoppers to the 2012 Ohio Valley League championship and was hired in the fall as an assistant coach. Crawford will continue his duties with the Hoppers as well.

A Christian County football player will sign a letter today to play collegiately. The Kentucky New Era reports Ryan Knight will sign during a 2:30 ceremony this afternoon. The player’s name was not provided to media outlets in a release sent out by the Christian County Public Schools.

College Basketball: Kentucky won its fourth straight game last night in knocking off South Carolina 77-55 in Rupp Arena. Julius Mays 15 points led five double figure scorers for the Wildcats who improved to 16-6/7-2 in SEC play. Kentucky is back in action Saturday hosting Auburn, with pre game coverage at 1:30 on Lite 98.7.

Tonight’s games: 11^th ranked Louisville meets Rutgers. Women’s action has Murray State at New Orleans.

College Football: Today is the first day of the spring signing period and it’s expected to be a big day for Kentucky, Louisville Western Kentucky, Tennessee and Vanderbilt.

Kentucky got a commitment Tuesday from Franklin County High School wide receiver Ryan Timmons. Timmons chose to play for new coach Mark Stoops over going to SEC rival Florida, Ohio State and Illinois. Timmons rushed for 1,260 yards, caught 29 passes for 970 yards and scored 45 touchdowns last season for Franklin County.

Multiple media reports indicate Trinity High School defensive end Jason Hatcher has decommitted from Southern California and could commit to Kentucky today. Hatcher will have an afternoon news conference today to make it official.

NHL: Six different Predators scored in Nashville's 6-1 victory over the St. Louis Blues.  Martin Erat had a goal and two assists while Ryan Ellis scored one with one helper.  Kevin Klein, Gabriel Bourque, Richard Clunie and Nick Spaling also scored while Colin Wilson had three assists.  Pekka Rinne made 31 stops for the Preds, who have won three straight to move to 4-2-and-3.
