High School Basketball-Monday’s scores

Boys: Christian County ended a four game losing streak and gained the second seed for the upcoming 8^th district basketball tournament with a 63-59 win over University Heights.

CJ Cotton led a trio of double figure scorers for the Colonels with 23 points, while Austin Byrum had 16 second half points to lead the Blazers. Christian County improved to 11-12/3-2 in district play, while UHA falls to 9-12/2-4 in concluding district play.

Hopkinsville rolled to a big win over Trigg County 92-65 in Tiger Gym. Jaqualis Matlock had 31 points, with Tra Edwards tallying 21 for the 22-4 Tigers. Trigg County was led in scoring by Deonquez Nance with 25.

Other games saw Hopkins Central edge Fort Campbell 84-81, Warren Central defeat Russellville 84-64, Bowling Green over Logan County 84-59, Union County over Livingston Central 56-29, Community Christian over Christian Fellowship 53-26, Mayfield over Murray 61-46, Greenwood over Owensboro Catholic 59-49, Warren East defeated Caverna 74-57.

Girls: Fort Campbell over Russellville 56-44, Hopkins Central over Trigg County 43-27, Muhlenberg County over Apollo 59-49, Murray defeated Mayfield 73-47, Community Christian rolled over Christian Fellowship 44-17, Lone Oak over Ballard Memorial 48-38, Warren Central over Franklin Simpson 42-29, Caverna over Warren East 57-51, Bowling Green rolls over Butler County 78-39.

College Basketball: Women’s Ohio Valley Conference action saw Austin Peay fall to Southeast Missouri 69-51.

Tonight’s games:   Kentucky entertains South Carolina this evening at Rupp Arena, with pre game coverage at 6:30 on Lite 98.7.

Kentucky’s Nerlens Noel was named SEC freshman of the week for the third straight week Monday. Noel set a school record with 12 blocks in last Tuesday’s win at Ole Miss and had a season high 19 points in Kentucky’s overtime win Saturday at Texas A&M.

Murray State and Austin Peay have learned who they will play in the Ramada Worldwide Bracketbuster games later this month. The Racers get a home date for the second straight year as they will play South Dakota State on February 23^rd. The game will be televised on ESPN 2 at 7 pm.

Austin Peay will be on the road for their Bracketbuster contest as they play at Liberty University. It will mark the 10^th time Austin Peay has participated in the event.

Austin Peay’s Chris Horton has been named the OVC freshman of the week following an 11 point, 10 rebound, six blocked shot performance in the Governors overtime loss to Murray State. It marks the 7^th time this season Horton has received the honor.

College Football:   The Courier Journal reports Louisville has received a commitment from linebacker Lyn Clark. Clark plays for O. Perry Walker High School in New Orleans. The 6-2 215 pound Clark chose Louisville following an official visit. He had also been considering Louisiana Tech and Tulane, where he had been committed for two years before withdrawing his pledge last month.

NFL: It’s now official that former University of Tennessee coach Derek Dooley is a member of the Dallas Cowboys coaching staff. The Tennessean reports receivers coach Jimmy Robinson was reassigned Monday to make room for Dooley. Dooley was fired at Tennessee in November after going 15-21 in three seasons.

NHL: The Nashville Predators play their final game of the seven game road trip in St. Louis this evening against the Blues. First puck drops at 7 pm.
