Kentucky coach John Calipari has his weekly call in show at 5, followed by Big Blue Weekly at 6 on Lite 98.7. UK returns to action Thursday night at Vanderbilt, with pre game coverage at 6:30 on Lite 98.7.
Sunday’s scores: Iona defeated Manhattan 78-70, with former Christian County player Donovan Kates scoring 10 points in a reserve role.
Women’s action saw 6th ranked Kentucky hold off Alabama 87-70, 12th ranked Tennessee defeated 10th ranked Georgia 79-66, Vanderbilt beat Ole Miss 76-57 and Arkansas State nipped Western Kentucky 63-58.
Tonight’s women’s action in the OVC has Austin Peay at UT Martin and Murray State at Southeast Missouri.
The Knoxville News Sentinel reported Sunday University of Tennessee senior forward Jeronne Maymon will be redshirted after having a setback following recovery from arthoscopic knee surgery. Maymon was a second team All SEC selection last season and averaged 12.7 points. He will have one year of eligibility remaining.
College Football: The Courier Journal reported Sunday two players plan to transfer from the University of Florida, with one maybe coming to the University of Louisville. Sophomore backup quarterback Jacoby Briskett started three games in two seasons and has U of L on his short list of schools. Also transferring from Florida is sophomore safety/running back Chris Johnson.
NHL: Following the announcement that the NHL and the Players Association had reached a new collective bargaining agreement, the Nashville Predators held an impromptu workout Sunday afternoon at the A-Game Sportsplex. Shea Weber told the Tennessean players are eager to get back to work and want to get back into a routine. It’s not yet known if teams will play a 48 or 50 game schedule.
