SPORTS UPDATE 12/31/12

College Football:   WPSD-Paducah reported on its website Sunday night Murray State quarterback Casey Brockman and offensive lineman Roddy Tomlin recently signed with agents.

Brockman says after talking with his representatives, he’s optimistic about his chances of making an NFL team or at least make to training camp whether he’s drafted or taken by a team as an undrafted free agent.

Brockman added scouts do have questions about his ability to take snaps under center and being able to drop back and pass. He’s primarily worked out of the shotgun formation during his collegiate career. Brockman will have a chance to show his wares when he plays in the Raycom All Star game in Montgomery, Alabama January 19^th.

Kentucky Sports Radio reported on its website Sunday names are beginning to swirl on who will become members of new Western Kentucky coach Bobby Petrino’s staff. Those names are former Louisville assistants Jeff Brohm, Mike Cassity and Mike Summers.

College Basketball: Several top 25 teams are in action on this New Year’s Eve, including a Big 10 showdown between 5^th ranked Indiana at Iowa, 7^th ranked Syracuse hosts Central Connecticut State, 8^th ranked Cincinnati is at 24^th rated Pittsburgh, 13^th ranked Gonzaga is at 22^nd ranked Oklahoma State, 14^th ranked Minnesota hosts 19^th ranked Michigan State and 25^th rated North Carolina State hosts UNC Greensboro.

NFL: On what’s called “Black Monday” four coaches have been fired thus far. Cleveland Browns coach Pat Shurmur, Kansas City coach Romeo Crennel, Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith and Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid have been cut loose, with San Diego expected to fire Norv Turner sometime today.
