College Football

Western Kentucky makes its first ever bowl appearance as a member of Football Bowl Subdivision this evening as the Hilltoppers meet the Chippewas of Central Michigan in the Little Caesar’s Bowl in Detroit.   The Hilltoppers bring a 7-5 record into the contest, while Central Michigan is 6-6. Coverage of the game from Ford Field in Detroit begins at 5:30 this evening on Newstalk 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP.

Following a break for Christmas, 22nd ranked Louisville returns to the practice field today as they prepare for the Sugar Bowl against 4th ranked Florida one week from today.

College Basketball

3rd ranked Arizona won the championship game of the DiamondHead Classic in Hawaii by defeating 17th ranked San Diego State 68-67. The Wildcats are 12-0 for the first time since 1987.

Kentucky coach John Calipari’s weekly talk show airs Thursday night at 5, followed by Big Blue Weekly at 6 on Lite 98.7. The Wildcats are back in action Saturday at 3rd ranked Louisville, with pre game coverage at 1:30 on Lite 98.7.

The court at EA Diddle Arena will be named in honor of former Western Kentucky player, coach and athletic director John Oldham as the Hilltoppers take on Florida International tomorrow night, with pre game coverage at 6:30 on Newstalk 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP.

High School Football

The Courier Journal has named its All State teams. Fort Campbell offensive lineman Koty Hix was named to the first team, along with linemen Hunter Bivin of Apollo and Eli Wilson of Graves County. Graves County running back Zack Katzman was also named first team. Defensively, Mayfield’s Jonathan Jackson and Owensboro Catholic’s Logan Cart were named first team.

Mayfield wide receiver Jordon Brown, Madisonville lineman Skylar Ipock and Murray kicker Alex Ward were named second team offensive members, with defensive linemen Cole Webster of Caldwell County, Darius Catlett of Murray, linebackers Deondre Jackson of Mayfield and AK Tisdale of Logan County, and defensive backs Juan Jones of Christian County and Darrius Spivey-Nunn of Paducah Tilghman also named second team.

Third team offensive members include running back Korey Mosley of Christian County, wide receivers Tez Sivills of Caldwell County and Narcarius Fant of Bowling Green, and offensive lineman Kendall Calhoun of Paducah Tilghman.

Defensive members are Derik Overstreet of Paducah Tilghman, Warren Central’s Darius Lancaster, Chris Porter-Bunton and Emmit Smith, Eli Brown of Warren East.
