High School Basketball

Boys: Christian County opened play in the Fort Harrod Classic with a 66-39 win over Walton Verona. Quan Poindexter was the only double figure scorer for the Colonels with 18 points.

At the KME Classic, Trigg County defeated Stewart County, TN 79-53, Graves County over Warren East 60-53, Murray defeated Stewart County 55-31.

Elsewhere: Fort Campbell edged Crittenden County 51-48, Rossview over Todd Central 56-53, Breckinridge County edged Russellville 80-76, Calloway County over Henderson County 47-45, Madisonville defeated Ballard Memorial 54-37, Dawson Springs over Heritage Academy 64-59.

Girls: Butler defeated University Heights 61-49 at the Queen of the Bluegrass tournament in Louisville.

At the KME Classic, Heath defeated Trigg County 59-18, Lone Oak edged Russellville 47-45.

Elsewhere: Madisonville over Livingston Central 45-39, Webster County defeated Apollo 69-49, Graves County lost to Houston County, TN 41-40 and Ridgeway, TN 82-42, Bowling Green over Simon Kenton 59-54.

Christian County faces Montgomery County in the winners bracket of the Fort Harrod Classic, University Heights is at Fleming County, Trigg County meets Graves County and Warren East at the KME Classic, Madisonville meets Owensboro in the Hancock Bank Classic, Caldwell County meets Hickman County and Paducah Tilghman in the Paducah Tilghman Christmas Classic, Carlisle County is at Union County.

Girls: Trigg County plays Russellville and Lone Oak meets Heath at the KME Classic, Apollo meets Madisonville and Webster County plays Livingston Central at the Hancock Bank Classic, Hopkins Central meets Daviess County, Caldwell County goes against Harlan, Muhlenberg County meets Iroquois.

College Basketball:   Murray State’s women’s team saw its seven game win streak end at the hands of Missouri 69-55.

Tonight’s action: Tennessee host Western Carolina and Vanderbilt plays Middle Tennessee at Bridgestone Arena.

Women’s action has Kentucky at UC Santa Barbara with coverage at 4:45 on Newstalk 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP, Austin Peay hosts Lipscomb, Western Kentucky plays Florida A&M.

Kentucky returns to action tomorrow meeting Marshall at Rupp Arena, with pre game coverage at 1:30 on Lite 98.7. Western Kentucky tangles with 4th ranked Louisville at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Murray State plays at Dayton, Austin Peay is at Illinois State, LSU at Marquette, Vanderbilt meets Charleston, Manhattan goes against South Carolina.

College Baseball: Collegiate Baseball has released its pre season Top 40, with Vanderbilt ranked 3rd, Kentucky 8th and Louisville 22nd. Arkansas is pre season ranked number one. Tennessee was among others receiving votes.

NHL: Games in the National Hockey League are now cancelled through January 14th because of the ongoing dispute between owners and players.
