SPORTS UPDATE 12/20/12

College Football: Not only has Kentucky picked up a junior college signee in defensive end Za’Darius Smith, but has also a commitment from tight end prospect Stephen Borden from Kilgore Community College in Texas. Kentucky Sports Radio.com reports Borden is the son of wrestler Sting.

There’s one bowl game this evening as the Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego has San Diego State taking on BYU.

College Basketball: The Bowling Green Daily News reported Wednesday that Western Kentucky quarterback Kawuan Jakes may join the basketball team following the Hilltoppers game with Central Michigan in the Little Caesar’s Bowl next week.

Western is depleted at point guard with injuries to TJ Price and Jamal Crook. The Toppers are back in action Saturday against 4th ranked Louisville at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.

Here’s a clip and save note from last night’s win for Murray State 61-54 at Arkansas State. It was the first time in 50 years that the Racers had won a game in Jonesboro. The Racers were 0-8 since picking up their last win at Arkansas State in 1962. The win was also the 16th away from Murray for the Racers, which is a school record.

The top two ranked teams are in action this evening as top ranked Duke hosts Elon, while second ranked Michigan hosts Eastern Michigan.

NFL: After playing so badly in the early part of the season, the Tennessee Titans defense has made quite an improvement. The Titans head to Green Bay Sunday ranked in the top five of six defensive categories, including fourth in scoring defense holding opponents to 17.6 points per game since November 11th. The Titans gave up an NFL worst 181 points through the first five games and still rank 30th in the category for the season.
