SPORTS UPDATE 12/17/12

High School Soccer: Christian County senior Matt Gibson signed today to play collegiate soccer for Hannibal –LaGrange University, located in Hannibal, Missouri. Gibson talked about the chance playing at the collegiate level:

Gibson scored 7 goals and had 5 assists in his Christian County career, and even spent some time as Colonels goalkeeper.

OVL Baseball:   Ohio Valley League president Gordon Guess announced on the league’s website last Friday the addition of a sixth team to the league for 2013. The Du Bois County Bombers are from Huntingburg, Indiana and play in League Stadium, which was used in filming the 1990’s movie “A League of Their Own”. The Bombers have new ownership and will have a new manager in Wes Fink.

College Basketball: Tonight’s regional action has Vanderbilt taking on Cornell in Nashville. Top 25 games have 4th rated Syracuse hosts Detroit, 11th ranked Missouri welcomes South Carolina State, 17th rated UNLV meets Texas El Paso and 24th Notre Dame meets IPFW.

The Big East Conference has named Louisville’s Chane Behanan Player of the Week. The sophomore who played his last two years of high school at Bowling Green High, had 22 points in the Cards win at Memphis Saturday.

Western Kentucky doesn’t get much turn around time after its loss to Murray State Sunday. The Hilltoppers are in action tomorrow night at Virginia Commonwealth in a game you can hear beginning at 5:30 on Newstalk 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP.

Kentucky coach John Calipari has his weekly call in show at 5 this evening, followed by Big Blue Weekly at 6 on Lite 98.7.

NFL: The New York Jets still have an outside chance of making the AFC playoffs, however the Tennessee Titans can play role of spoiler as the teams meet in Monday Night Football this evening at LP Field in Nashville.
