College Football

The Courier Journal reports new Western Kentucky football coach Bobby Petrino’s first year of his $850 thousand salary will be paid by former coach Willie Taggart’s $500 thousand buyout and revenues for the football program from ticket sales this past season that were not anticipated. Petrino, whose contract is four years at $850 thousand per year contains an over one million dollar buyout. Petrino will be the highest paid coach in the Sun Belt Conference.

Former University of Tennessee player and current Southern California assistant coach Tee Martin has turned down an opportunity to return to his alma mater as a member of new coach Butch Jones’ staff. Martin said in a statement that he was honored to be offered the opportunity to return to his alma mater and called the decision the toughest he has ever had to make.

University of Kentucky offensive lineman Larry Warford has been named third team Associated Press All American. Warford is the 12^th offensive lineman in Kentucky history to be named AP All American and the first since 1989.

College Basketball

LSU defeated Chattanooga 80-67 last night, without former Christian County standout Anthony Hickey who is on indefinite suspension. Coach Johnny Jones told the Baton Rouge Advocate in a preview article on the game Tuesday that Hickey was still enrolled at LSU and part of the basketball program. Jones added a decision on Hickey’s future would be made later this week. The Tigers begin a three game road trip Friday night at Boise State.
