Tuesday’s High School Basketball Scores

Boys: Christian County picked up its first win of the season with a 77-63 victory over Madisonville. The Colonels had only two players in double figures, with Quan Poindexter leading the way with 22 points.

Jarvis Irby had 19 points all in the second half, with 15 of those coming in the fourth quarter. Madisonville had three players in double figures led by Daylyn Jones with 16. Christian County evened its record to 1-1 while Madisonville fell to 2-2.

Elsewhere: Russellville edged University Heights 69-66, Crittenden County over Caldwell County 52-43, Fort Campbell defeated Lyon County 76-72, Trigg County over Hopkins Central 81-64, South Warren over Franklin Simpson 49-45, Muhlenberg County got by Union County 65-63, Ohio County over Marshall County 67-54, Webster County defeated Livingston Central 70-35, Warren Central nipped Owensboro 69-68, Greenwood over Daviess County 73-69, Bowling Green over Elizabethtown 66-58, Murray rolled over Community Christian 64-24.

Girls: Christian County saw its two game win streak come to an end as they lost to Madisonville 52-49. Dannika Prater had 24 points to lead all scorers for Christian County, with Alexis Davie adding 10.

Madisonville was led by Shaniya Whitsell with 13, with Punkin McNary and Adarian Gray each adding 11. Madisonville is now 3-0 on the season, while Christian County falls to 2-2.

Elsewhere:   University Heights defeated Lyon County 61-26, Caldwell County over Crittenden County 57-39, Franklin Simpson over South Warren 58-52, Muhlenberg County over Owensboro 55-50, Paducah Tilghman got by Mayfield 53-51, Webster County over Livingston Central 65-24, Henderson County over Castle, IN 65-57.

Tonight’s game: Two of the top teams in the 2nd region meet in boys action as Hopkinsville hosts Henderson County. Tip off at 7:30 from Tiger Gym, with the Heritage Bank pre game show at 7:15 on Newstalk 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP and whopam.com.

College Basketball: Kentucky snapped a two game losing streak with a convincing 88-56 win over Samford in Rupp Arena. Six Wildcats were in double figures led by Archie Goodwin’s 18 points and 11 rebounds. Clarksville’s Alex Poythress added 16 for Kentucky who improves to 5-3 on the season. Next up for Kentucky is a Saturday date with Portland, with pre game coverage at 9:30 am on Lite 98.7.

Murray State rolled past Bethel 76-54 thanks to a career high 23 points from Ed Daniel, who also added 14 rebounds. Stacy Wilson added 16 and Isaiah Cannan pitched in 15 for the 6-1 Racers who play next at Evansville Saturday.

5th ranked Louisville got 18 points from Wayne Blackshear as the Cardinals defeated College of Charleston 80-38 to improve to 7-1 on the season.

Women’s action: Austin Peay lost to Middle Tennessee 70-56, while Vanderbilt edged Western Kentucky 77-67.

Tonight’s action: Austin Peay hosts Oakland College, while Western Kentucky entertains Southern Illinois.

Kentucky got some good news yesterday as the top recruit for 2015, Karl Towns, made a verbal commitment to the Wildcats. Towns also announced he is reclassifying himself where he can graduate in 2014 and be eligible for Kentucky in the fall of that year.

College Football: ESPN reports that Louisville’s Charlie Strong is reportedly the front runner for the head coaching position at the University of Tennessee. Strong didn’t help his cause at Louisville Monday by criticizing fans for not coming to games and encouraged them to be more like Kentucky fans. The Cards will play Florida in the Sugar Bowl January 2nd in New Orleans.
