High School Basketball Boys Scores: Christian County opened the season with a 70-56 loss at Montgomery Bell Academy, Warren East defeated Logan County 83-68, Owensboro defeated Webster County 54-36, Ohio County over Hopkins Central 91-77, Lyon County over Livingston Central 76-65. Girls Scores: Murray defeated Hopkinsville 59-44, Webster County rolled over Dawson Springs 70-26, Muhlenberg County edged Hancock County 41-38, Owensboro over Warren East 72-30, Henderson County routed Daviess County 68-16, Glasgow defeated Greenwood 68-47. Today’s games Boys: Hopkinsville meets Bullitt East in the Marshall County Hoopfest in Draffenville. High School Football Friday scores from the Russell Athletics/Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl: Class A: Mayfield rolled over Fairview 55-8. Both teams finished the season 14-1. Class 3-A: Louisville Central won in overtime over Belfry 12-6. Class 4-A: Highlands wins its 22nd state title with a 47-0 win over Collins High. Today’s games: Caldwell County meets Newport Central Catholic at 11 am, followed by Bowling Green and Cooper High at 3 pm, with Pleasure Ridge Park and Trinity meeting in the 6-A title game at 7 this evening at Western Kentucky University. College Basketball: 8th ranked Kentucky looks to avenge Thursday night’s loss at Notre Dame as they meet Baylor in Rupp Arena today. Elsewhere today: Western Kentucky continues a two game Sun Belt Conference road trip at Troy, Austin Peay hosts Fairfield and Louisville entertains Illinois State. College Football: Number 2 Alabama and number 3 Georgia play in the SEC Championship game in Atlanta later today. The winner meets number 1 Notre Dame in the BCS national championship game January 7th in Miami. Former NFL coach and current ESPN analyst Jon Gruden withdrew his name from consideration for the coaching position at the University of Tennessee Friday. WVLT-TV in Knoxville reported Gruden made his decision after discussing the job opportunity with his family.
