Thursday’s Girls games:   University Heights trounced Fort Campbell 70-46, Christian County defeated Warren Central 54-42, Jo Byrns over Heritage Christian Academy 42-27, Logan County edged Hopkins Central 66-63, Madisonville defeated Union County 56-27, Graves County over Livingston Central 48-38, Lone Oak over Fulton County 60-20, Henderson County over Evansville Memorial 47-30.

Thursday’s Boys games: Hopkinsville over Russellville 78-61, Union County edged University Heights 42-41, Heritage Christian Academy defeated Jo Byrns 60-54, Crittenden County over Dawson Springs 60-31, Murray over Fulton City 60-43, Graves County over Livingston Central 69-30.

Tonight’s games

Boys: Christian County with interim coach Kyle Eades opens the season at Montgomery Bell Academy in Nashville. Tip off at 7:30, with the Heritage Bank pre game show at 7:15 on Newstalk 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP and worldwide at whopam.com.

High School Football

The Russell Athletic/Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl begins today at Western Kentucky University.

Today’s games: Mayfield and Fairview meet in the Class A game at 11 am, followed by Central and Belfry in the Class 3-A game at 3 pm, with Highlands and Collins High tangling in the Class 4-A game at 7 pm.

Saturday games: Caldwell County and Newport Central Catholic begin the day in the Class 2-A game at 11 am, with Bowling Green and Cooper High meeting in the Class 5-A game at 3pm, with PRP and Trinity in the Class 6-A championship at 7 pm.

College Basketball

Kentucky’s first true road test proved to be a disaster as Notre Dame rolled over the 8^th ranked Wildcats 64-50. Julius Mays lead Kentucky in scoring with 16 points, with Nerlens Noel the only double figure scorer with 10. Kentucky goes to 4-2 on the season and hosts Baylor tomorrow in Rupp Arena, with pre game coverage at 10 am on Lite 98.7.

Elsewhere: TJ Price had a career high 30 points as Western Kentucky won its Sun Belt opener 65-54 at Louisiana Monroe. LSU edged Seton Hall 72-67, with former Christian County standout Anthony Hickey scoring 10 points. Former Christian County standout Donovan Kates had 15 points as Manhattan defeated Fordham 65-58.

Women’s scores: Murray State defeated Ball State 63-53, Western Kentucky won at Louisiana Monroe 67-57.

One game this evening has Tennessee meeting Georgetown as part of the SEC-Big East challenge.

College Football: Injured Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater came off the bench to toss two second half touchdowns and John Wallace’s 29 yard field goal with 1:41 left in the game gave the Cardinals a 20-17 victory at Rutgers.   The Cards received the bid to a BCS bowl game with the win.

Middle Tennessee says it gets validation in its announced move Thursday to Conference USA. The Tennessean reports the school will move to C-USA by July 1, 2014. However, MTSU could be there as early as 2013 if the Sun Belt Conference can find suitable replacements for they and Florida Atlantic, who is also bolting for C-USA and can negotiate an exit fee as high as $1 million. Two other SBC schools, Florida International and North Texas will play in C-USA in 2013.
