West Kentucky Star.com reported Friday Murray State’s Zay Jackson withdrew his guilty plea to hitting two people with his vehicle in the Wal Mart parking lot in Murray in September. The withdrawal was made after a plea deal was rejected by the judge now presiding over the case.
A plea deal in the case had downgraded the charges to wanton endangerment and recommended Jackson serve 30 days in jail and go through pretrial diversion. Judge Craig Clymer said he thought the plea deal overlooked the seriousness of the case.
The case against the 20-year-old Jackson will now go back to its beginnings starting with being heard by a Calloway County grand jury. Judge Clymer says Jackson will be subjected to the original charges of second degree assault.
