High School Football:  Four regional teams remain alive as the Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl moves to week 4 Friday night.

Class A: Mayfield travels to Beechwood

Class 2A: Caldwell County at Desales

Class 4A: Warren East goes to Collins

Class 5A:   Bowling Green at John Hardin

College Basketball:   Murray State lost in the championship game of the Charleston Classic to Colorado 81-74. Isaiah Cannan led the Racers with 21 points and was named to the all tournament team, while Ed Daniel had a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds.   Murray State falls to 3-1 on the season. The Racers are back in action Saturday night as they host Old Dominion.

Second ranked Louisville routed Miami(Ohio) 80-39. Russ Smith had a game high 23 points to lead the Cardinals. The win improved the Cards to 3-0 on the season.

Tennessee defeated UMass in the third place game of the Puerto Rico Tip off 83-69. Jarnell Stokes had a career high 24 points and was named to the all tournament team. Tennessee is now 3-1 on the season.

Oklahoma State won the Puerto Rico Tipoff, upsetting 6^th ranked NC State 76-56.

Women’s basketball:   Austin Peay used a 23-12 burst to start the second half and hung on to beat Binghamton 71-67. The Lady Govs are now 1-2 on the season as they head to the University of Texas-San Antonio Thanksgiving Classic Friday and Saturday.

Tennessee’s Lady Vols defeated the University of Miami 79-67 Sunday in Miami, ending the Hurricanes 41 game home winning streak. Tennessee is now 3-1 on the season.

College Football:   It was no surprise as Tennessee announced the firing of coach Derek Dooley Sunday. Athletics director Dave Hart said Dooley would not coach the Vols final regular season game Saturday against Kentucky. Those duties will go to offensive coordinator Jim Chaney. Dooley was 15-21 and 4-19 in SEC play in his three years at UT.

Hart added Dooley will be paid the remainder of his contract, which is in the neighborhood of $5 million over the next four years.

Meanwhile, the Leaf Chronicle reports Clarksville Northeast football standout Jalen Reeves-Maybin will stand by his verbal commitment he made to Tennessee in August. Reeves-Maybin finished his high school career recently as Northeast’s all time touchdowns leader.

Members of Austin Peay and Murray State’s teams were honored for their play in the final regular season games by the Ohio Valley Conference.

Austin Peay quarterback Jake Ryan was named co-offensive player of the week after throwing for 310 yards on 27-38 through the air and a career high four touchdowns as the Governors defeated Tennessee Tech 38-31 .

Murray State’s Brandon Wicks was named co defensive player of the week after a career high 16 tackles in the Racers 42-35 win over Southeast Missouri. Fellow Racer Walter Powell was named specialist of the week after returning a FCS record setting 100 yard punt return for a touchdown.
