SPORTS HEADLINES 11/15/12

High School Basketball: Heritage Christian Academy plays a doubleheader this evening against Pleasant View Christian at Warrior Gym. It will be the season opener for the Lady Warriors, while the Warriors bring a 1-2 record into their game. Christian County High School will have its basketball “Meet the Colonels” night Saturday night beginning at 6 pm at Colonel Gym. The middle and high school boys and girls basketball teams will participate in the event. Admission is $2.

College Basketball:   Murray State begins play in the Foster Grant Charleston Classic tonight against Auburn. The Racers bring a 1-0 record into the game after a season opening win over Brescia. Tip off is at 7 pm.

Second ranked Louisville is also in action this evening, hosting Samford. Tipoff at the KFC Yum Center is set for 6 pm Hopkinsville time.

Tennessee opens play in the Puerto Rico Tip Off as the Volunteers face UNC Asheville.

Women’s basketball: Austin Peay entertains 8th ranked Louisville in the Dunn Center this evening, while Murray State plays at James Madison.

Two of Kentucky basketball’s 2013 recruits sent their letters of intent in Wednesday, the first day of the fall signing period. The Lexington Herald Leader reports Bullitt East’s Derek Willis and California native Marcus Lee both sent their letters. The other three commitments—Aaron and Andrew Harrison and James Young will send in their letters by the end of the signing period November 21st.

Louisville received letters from all four of its 2013 recruits Wednesday. Chris Jones, a junior college transfer heads the class. The others are Akoy Agau from Omaha, Nebraska and Terry Rozier and Anton Gil who are both at Hargraves Military Academy.

College Football:   A long time football coach for Tennessee State University has died. The school’s website reported Wednesday that Joe Gilliam, Sr. was 89. Gilliam was either a head coach or an assistant in four decades at the Nashville school.
