SPORTS UPDATE 11/14/12

Sports Tonight with Todd Hamilton airs at 5:08 this evening on Newstalk 95.3 FM/1230 AM and worldwide at whopam.com. High School Basketball will be the main topic, with comments from the boys’ coaches at Hopkinsville, Christian County and UHA who were at the Rotary Club meeting Tuesday.

As WHOP Sports reported this morning, the 2013 Hoptown Hoppers baseball roster has been tentatively completed. The roster includes four players from the 2012 Ohio Valley League championship team which includes catcher Brad Sevenish, pitcher Jason McDonald and locals Kyle Barbee and Matt McGowan. Another local player who will be on the 2013 roster is former Christian County pitcher Cole Isom.

There will also be a change in the coaching staff as Mark Bounds replaces assistant Judson Sullivan.

College Basketball: Kentucky coach John Calipari says there is room for improvement for his young Wildcat basketball team.

Kentucky lost to Duke 75-68 in the Georgia Dome Tuesday night. The Wildcats return home to host Lafayette Friday night, with pre game coverage at 4:30 on Lite 98.7.

The Murray State Racers are working out today in Charleston, SC ahead of their first game against Auburn tomorrow in the Charleston Classic. Tipoff is at 7 pm.

NFL: ESPN reports Byron Leftwich will start for the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday in their game against Baltimore Sunday night replacing the injured Ben Rothlisberger. Rothlisberger suffered a shoulder injury and injury to his ribs in Monday night’s overtime win over Kansas City.

The New York Daily News reports some members of the New York Jets think Tim Tebow is not a very good quarterback. The players on both the offensive and defensive side say they have not seen much improvement in Tebow since he arrived in March from Denver. Mark Sanchez is coach Rex Ryan’s choice as starter, despite the Jets 3-6 record.

Week 11 of the NFL season begins tomorrow night with the Miami Dolphins meeting the Buffalo Bills.
