SPORTS UPDATE 11/1/12

High School Football: Christian County, Hopkinsville and Fort Campbell are all going through final walkthroughs today for their playoff games in the Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl tomorrow night. High School Football presented by O’Charley’s has Hopkinsville at Warren Central, with the Heritage Bank pre game show at 6:35 on Newstalk 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP.  

Christian County hosts Greenwood, with the Heritage Bank pre game show at 6:35 on Lite 98.7.

Fort Campbell hosts Hart County in the opening round in Class 3-A, with kickoff at Fryar Stadium at 7 pm.

College Basketball:   Kentucky opens pre season action this evening against Northwood in Rupp Arena. The Seahawks are coached by Rollie Massamino, the same coach who took Villanova to the 1985 NCAA national championship in Rupp Arena. Tip off at 6, with pre game coverage at 4:30 on Lite 98.7.

Louisville opens pre season action up this evening hosting Pikeville University, which features a former Cardinal in Elisha Justice.

Tennessee’s Lady Vols play their first pre season game without Pat Summitt on the bench this evening in Knoxville. Holly Warlick is the new coach, and she will put several first year players into action this evening at Thompson Boiling Arena.

College Football: Middle Tennessee is hoping to get revenge for last year’s 36-33 double overtime loss as they play at Western Kentucky this evening. The 6-2 Hilltoppers are already bowl eligible and a win solidifies their chances for a post season bid, while a win for the Blue Raiders makes them bowl eligible. Kickoff for the nationally televised game on ESPN U is at 8:15.

Other games tonight have Virginia Tech at Miami and Washington is at Cal.

NFL: The San Diego Chargers are looking to get a season sweep of the Kansas City Chiefs this evening. In week four, the Chargers rolled over the Chiefs in KC 37-20. Air time for tonight’s game is at 7 on Newstalk 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP.
