SPORTS UPDATE 10/31/12

College Basketball: The Kentucky Wildcats are making final preparations for their pre season game with Longwood tomorrow night at Rupp Arena. Coverage of the game begins at 4:30 on Lite 98.7.

Louisville also plays its first pre season game tomorrow night hosting Pikeville.

Austin Peay senior guard Jerome Clyburn was to undergo surgery today to repair a tear of a medial meniscus in his left knee. Clyburn suffered the injury in practice Sunday and is expected to miss a month.

NFL: The Tennessee Titans begin work today for their next game Sunday against the Chicago Bears at LP Field. Kickoff is at noon Sunday.

The NFL weekend begins tomorrow night with an AFC West showdown between Kansas City and San Diego, with coverage of the game at 7 on Newstalk 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP.

Despite reports out of Jacksonville that a trade is brewing between the Jaguars and the NY Jets for backup quarterback Tim Tebow, Jets sources tell NFL.com there have been no talks between the teams. Tebow was acquired by the Jets from Denver in the off season and has played sparingly this season. The NFL trade deadline is tomorrow.

Golf: Princeton’s Emma Talley helped the University of Alabama finish in a first place tie at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational in Austin, TX Tuesday. Alabama and Florida tied for the team title at one under par 863, with the Lady Gators winning the tiebreaker.

Talley finished 27th in the event individually with a 6 over par 222 score. It was the final fall event for the Alabama team, who will return to spring action in the Lady Puerto Rico Classic February 10-12, 2013.

Murray State senior and Benton native Patrick Newcomb has been named the Kentucky Golf Association’s player of the year. It’s the second straight year Newcomb has received the honor. Newcomb won the State Amateur title this year, along with making it to the round of 16 in this year’s U-S Amateur championship.
