SPORTS UPDATE 10/17/12

Sports Tonight comes your way at 5:08 this evening on Newstalk 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP. A tribute to former Christian County softball/wrestling coach Jim Perrin will be part of the program along with interviews with Christian County football coach Steve Lovelace, Hopkinsville coach Marc Adam Clark and Christian County volleyball coach Rick Erickson.

College Basketball:   USA Today has released its pre season poll with Tom Crean's Indiana Hoosiers sitting at number one, Louisville is second, Kentucky third with Ohio State and Michigan rounding out the top five.  North Carolina State, Kansas, Duke, Syracuse and Florida comprise the remainder of the top 10.

6-9 forward Marcus Lee of California will make his decision sometime this afternoon whether he’ll play for Kentucky or California. If Lee comes to Kentucky, he’ll join recruits Derek Willis of Bullitt East, twins Aaron and Andrew Harrison of Texas and James Young of Michigan for the Class of 2013.

Louisville has been picked by the Big East media to win the basketball race this season. Syracuse is second, Notre Dame third, Cincinnati fourth and Georgetown fifth. Peyton Siva of the Cards was named Big East pre season of the year and was named on the Big East first team along with teammate Gorgui Deng.

MLB: The National League Championship Series continues this afternoon in St. Louis, with the Cardinals and Giants knotted at a game each. Kyle Loshe gets the start for the Redbirds, while Matt Cain goes for San Francisco.

Detroit can wrap up the American League Championship Series with a win over New York this evening. The Tigers lead the best of seven 3-0 and send Max Scherzer to the mound against CC Sabathia who has won two games in the post season for the Yankees.

NFL: The Seattle Seahawks, fresh from their win Sunday over New England, travel to San Francisco to face a 49er team coming off a drubbing from the New York Giants tomorrow night. Coverage of the game at 7 on Newstalk 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP.
