Legendary Christian County softball coach and former athletic director Jim Perrin died at his home Monday afternoon.

Perrin spent 34 years coaching and in administration at the high school level at Christian County and Trigg County High Schools, along with several years as head softball coach at Austin Peay.

Perrin led Christian County to four softball state championships, including three slow pitch titles in the early 1990’s. Two years ago, Perrin returned to Christian County as softball coach and led the Lady Colonels to the 2012 2^nd region title and an appearance in the KHSAA State tournament. Perrin also coached wrestling in his early years at Christian County, leading the Colonels to a state championship and two runner ups.

Perrin was also inducted into the Dawahares/KHSAA Hall of Fame this spring and was inducted in the first class of the Christian County High School athletics Hall of Fame in 2004.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete for Jim Perrin, with Hughart and Beard Funeral Home, Hopkinsville in charge of arrangements.

2^nd region volleyball at Caldwell County: Christian County defeated Union County 3 sets to none to improve to 20-17 on the season, with Hopkins Central also a 3 sets to none winner over Trigg County.

2^nd region Boys soccer at Henderson County: Hopkinsville shut out Caldwell County 10-0 to improve to 19-4 on the season and moves into the semi finals Wednesday to face host Henderson County who also defeated Lyon County by a 10-0 score.

2^nd region Girls soccer at Lyon County: Christian County saw its season end with a 3-0 shutout by Lyon County. The Lady Colonels finish the season 6-12-3. Madisonville defeated Union County 11-0.

4^th region Girls Soccer: Greenwood shut out Todd Central 4-0.

High School Football

The Associated Press weekly polls have been released.

Class 5-A: Bowling Green is first, Warren Central drops to 4^th, Christian County 6^th with Greenwood ranked 7^th.

Class 3-A: Louisville Central is still first, Fort Campbell is 6^th and Paducah Tilghman is ranked 9^th.

Class 2-A: Owensboro Catholic remains number one, Caldwell County moves to 5^th, while Murray High falls to 7^th.

Class A: After picking up its 800^th win, Mayfield remains number one, with Russellville ranked 7^th.

Class 4-A: Highlands remains first, with Warren East still ranked 7^th and Lone Oak 10^th.

Class 6-A: Trinity is first, with Henderson County 6^th. The Colonels, Simon Kenton and Scott County are the only three schools in the top 10 that are from out in the state.

The Leaf Chronicle reports Fort Campbell’s football program is going to be featured on the Sports Illustrated Underdogs video series. The series focuses on underdog teams in high school football. S-I followed Fort Campbell for three days last week leading up to their 62-14 win over Webster County. The video will premiere on Sports Illustrated’s website this afternoon.

College Football:   The Knoxville News Sentinel reports Tennessee coach Derek Dooley will coach Saturday’s game against Alabama in the coaches booth again. Dooley is recovering from hip surgery last week and coached against Mississippi State from the coaches booth.

Meanwhile, Dooley says the Vols will likely be without tailback Raijon Neal after he injured an ankle in the Vols loss at Mississippi State last week.

NHL: Labor talks between the NHL and its players association resume today in Toronto. Today is day 30 of the strike and players also missed their first scheduled pay checks on Monday.
