High School Football The Christian County Colonels return to district action this evening at the Stadium of Champions, meeting the Apollo Eagles. The Colonels bring a 6-1/2-0 district mark into the game following a 57-17 win over Ohio County last week, while Apollo is 1-5/0-2 in district play and come in following a 48-27 loss to Hopkinsville last week. Kickoff at 7, with the Heritage Bank pre game show at 6:35 on Newstalk 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP and worldwide at whopam.com. The Hopkinsville Tigers are off this week and will be back in action next Friday at Ohio County. The KHSAA Boys State Golf Tournament begins today at Bowling Green Country Club. Hopkinsville and Henderson County are representing the 2nd region in the team competition, with individuals including Tadd Switzer of University Heights Academy and Nick Choate of Trigg County. The tournament runs through tomorrow. Thursday’s High School Scoreboard Volleyball: Logan County defeated Christian County 3-1, University Heights defeated Madisonville 3-0, Hopkins Central edged Hopkinsville 3-2. Boys Soccer: Hopkinsville over Graves County 5-2, Apollo shut out Todd Central 7-0, Mayfield defeated Caldwell County 5-2, Paducah Tilghman edged Fort Campbell 3-2. Girls Soccer: Hopkinsville defeated Murray 2-0, Madisonville over University Heights 5-1, Warren Central nipped Todd Central 3-2, Lyon County blanked Hopkins Central 4-0, Caldwell County shut out Mayfield 7-0. College Football: Kentucky faces Mississippi State tomorrow and will use two quarterbacks against the Bulldogs. Coach Joker Phillips said following Thursday’s practice that freshman Jalen Whitlow will start, with the other rookie Patrick Towles also seeing playing time. Kickoff just after 11 tomorrow morning, with pre game coverage at 9:30 on Lite 98.7. Elsewhere tomorrow: SEC action includes Vanderbilt at Missouri, with Austin Peay hosting Murray State in Ohio Valley Conference action. In the Big 10, Nebraska plays at Ohio State in a game you can hear at 6:30 on Newstalk 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP. College Basketball: The Harrison twins made it official Thursday, announcing they are coming to play at Kentucky next year. Both 6-5, Aaron Harrison averaged 18.5 points per game as a high school junior, while Andrew Harrison averaged 12.5 points per game in his junior season. NHL: As part of Thursday’s announcement that regular season games have been cancelled from October 11-24, the Nashville Predators have lost four home dates. The Tennessean reports players were supposed to receive their first paychecks October 16th and the second on October 30th. Talks to end the players strike are at a stalemate, with the players and the NHL blaming each other for the strike’s continuation.
