Kentucky quarterback Maxwell Smith worked out with the team Tuesday, one day earlier than originally planned. Offensive coordinator Randy Sanders told the Lexington Herald Leader following practice that Smith looked and felt good. Smith missed last week’s game at Florida due to a shoulder injury suffered in the Western Kentucky game.

The coaches will watch Smith throw today and tomorrow, then determine if he will play Saturday against South Carolina, a game you can hear with pre game coverage at 4:30 on Lite 98.7.

College Basketball: The Lexington Herald Leader reports the University of Kentucky’s women’s basketball team will have six games televised by the ESPN networks this coming season.

The games are as follows: Baylor—November 13^th at 5 pm on ESPN 2, Louisville—December 2^nd at 1 pm on ESPN U, at Missouri—January 13^th at 1:30 pm on ESPN U, at Vanderbilt—February 10^th at 3 pm on ESPN 2, at Texas A&M—February 18^th at 6 pm on ESPN 2 and Tennessee—March 3^rd at 2:30 pm on ESPN U.

ESPN.com reports representatives of the NFL and the NFL Referees Association met until early this morning, but did not reach a deal to end the lockout. A source says league owners are not willing to compromise further and differences remain on several issues including pensions for officials and how the NFL evaluates officials. The sides are expected to talk again later today.

The Houston Chronicle reports former Kentucky basketball standout Patrick Patterson will likely start for the Houston Rockets this season. Patterson is projected to be the starting power forward for the Rockets. Patterson averaged 7.7 points and 4.5 rebounds a game last season after recovering from an off season ankle injury.

Major League baseball action tonight has St. Louis at Houston, Cincinnati welcomes Milwaukee, Atlanta hosts Miami and the Chicago Cubs at Colorado.
