SPORTS UPDATE 9/14/12

ESPN reports Notre Dame has not started discussions with the Big East yet on its departure for the Atlantic Coast Conference. Big East commissioner Mike Aresco says Notre Dame is required to stay in the Big East two more seasons, but if they want to negotiate to leave early, they may make the request.  Notre Dame announced earlier this week its intentions to go to the ACC in all sports except football.

Kentucky’s Morgan Newton says he’ll do what he can to help the Wildcats reach a sixth bowl game. Newton, who began his career at quarterback, is playing the H-Back position in order to get playing time after being beaten out by Maxwell Smith to be the starting signal caller. Newton and the Wildcats host instate rival Western Kentucky tomorrow night at 6, with pre game coverage at 4:30 on Lite 98.7.

Arkansas News.com reports Razorback quarterback Tyler Wilson’s availability for tomorrow’s game with top ranked Alabama remains up in the air. Coach John L. Smith said Wilson did not practice Thursday after working out Wednesday. Wilson was hit in the head and knocked out of last Saturday’s loss to Louisiana Monroe. The Tennessee Titans are preparing for Sunday’s game with San Diego as if middle linebacker Colin McCarthy will not play. McCarthy is battling an ankle sprain suffered I the first half of last Sunday’s loss to New England. Will Witherspoon is expected to move to McCarthy’s position.

Former Christian County Colonel football standout Keith Tandy is listed as third on the depth chart at free safety as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers meet the NY Giants Sunday.
