Wednesday’s High School Sports Results

Girls Soccer:   University Heights defeated Fort Campbell 5-4 in double overtime on penalty kicks.

Golf: Hopkinsville and Christian County went against Trigg County at Boots Randolph Golf Course. Hopkinsville won with a 157 team score, Trigg County was second with 163 and Christian County had 170.

Trigg County’s Nick Choate was medalist with 35, Christian County’s TJ Ferry led the Colonels with 36 and Hopkinsville was led by Jack Gardner and Wade Perry with 38.

Girls action saw Trigg County defeated Hopkinsville 89-97. Trigg’s Madison Chaney was medalist with 40, with Hopkinsville led by Dacie Bolton’s 47.

Girls Soccer: University Heights meets Todd Central, Hopkinsville welcomes Caldwell County, Christian County goes to Webster County, Trigg County meets Dawson Springs, Logan County hosts South Warren, Madisonville travels to Apollo, Henderson County at Owensboro, Lyon County at Ballard Memorial.

Boys Soccer:   Hopkinsville hosts Murray, University Heights entertains Owensboro Catholic, Trigg County entertains Dawson Springs, Todd Central at Franklin Simpson, Union County at Hopkins Central.

Volleyball:   Hopkinsville at Caldwell County, Christian County goes to Bowling Green, Franklin Simpson at Todd Central, Madisonville at Ohio County, Trigg County goes to Hickman County.

Hoppers Baseball:   One of this year’s Hoptown Hoppers has made his collegiate baseball team as a walk on. Pitcher Taylor Veillon has made the squad for Louisiana Lafayette’s baseball team. Veillon had a 1-4 record and a 4.10 earned run average for the Ohio Valley League champions this summer.

College Basketball: Western Kentucky sophomore forward Nigel Snipes will miss the upcoming season after suffering a torn right ACL in practice. The injury occurred on Monday. Snipes played in 32 games as a freshman, averaging almost four points and just over two rebounds per game for the Hilltoppers.

Meanwhile, it was announced Wednesday WKU’s game with Louisville December 22^nd in Bridgestone Arena, Nashville will tip off at 7:30 Hopkinsville time and be televised by ESPN U.

The 2012 NCAA Final Four floor from the Mercedes Benz Superdome will be put to good use at the University of Kentucky. Northwestern Mutual bought the floor and donated it to the university. The center court jump circle will be the center piece of the Wildcats locker room, with some 3,000 square feet of the floor to be used in the Kentucky dressing room.

Parts of the floor not used in the locker rooms will be cut up, autographed by coach John Calipari and auctioned to fans, with the proceeds to go to charities around Kentucky, including coach Calipari’s foundation and Northwestern Mutual’s primary focus, pediatric cancer.

The Leaf Chronicle reports former Austin Peay basketball player Jerome Jackson will leave his job as boys assistant and head girls basketball coach at Clarksville Academy to join the Lady Governor basketball staff. Coach Carrie Daniels announced Wednesday Jackson replaces David Midlick, who left in July to become the head coach at Division Two power Delta State.

NFL: Following three knee surgeries and a one game suspension by the league, Tennessee Titans wide receiver Kenny Britt was on the practice field for the Titans Wednesday. Meanwhile, quarterback Jake Locker was limited in practice as he recovers from an injured left shoulder suffered in Sunday’s season opening loss to New England. Locker told reporters he expects to play Sunday at San Diego and is looking forward to having Britt on the field.

The NFL weekend begins tonight as the Chicago Bears play at Green Bay, with pre game coverage at 7 on Newstalk 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP.
