SPORTS UPDATE 9/12/12

This evening’s guests include Allen County Scottsville football coach Brad Hood, who will preview the matchup with Hopkinsville Friday night. Jeff Sisk will visit with Hoptown football coach Marc Adam Clark on the game with ACS, Coach Steve Lovelace will preview Christian County’s game with Fort Campbell.

ESPN reports Notre Dame is leaving the Big East to join the Atlantic Coast Conference in all sports except football and hockey. However, part of the deal includes the Irish will play five members of the ACC in football each season. When the transition will take place remains uncertain, as the Big East requires a 27 month notice to leave the conference.

Former Fort Campbell standout Antonio Andrews, now at Western Kentucky, ranks 8th nationally in all purpose yards with 180 yards per game and ranks 11th in punt return average with 18.2 yards per return. Andrews—who has become a versatile back for the Hilltoppers—will lead his team against Kentucky Saturday night in Lexington, with Countdown to Kickoff on the air at 4:30 on Lite 98.7.

Meanwhile, Kentucky defensive coordinator Rick Minter denies reports from Kentucky Sports Radio.com that he and head coach Joker Phillips had a verbal confrontation during the Louisville game which spilled over into last week’s preparations for the Kent State game. Addressing the media on the matter following practice Tuesday, Minter said quote “Didn’t happen”.

Major League Baseball includes St. Louis playing a late afternoon game at San Diego, with Cincinnati hosting Pittsburgh, Atlanta at Milwaukee and Chicago meeting Houston this evening.

News Channel 5-Nashville reports the Milwaukee Brewers have extended their deal to have the Nashville Sounds as their Triple A affiliate through the 2014 season.
