Kentucky Sports Radio.com reports sources have told them there have been heated conversations over the last 10 days between Kentucky football coach Joker Phillips and defensive coordinator Rick Minter. Sources say the two men had a verbal confrontation on the sidelines during the Louisville game in which Phillips told Minter to make defensive changes and Minter did not. The disagreement reportedly spilled over into practice and pre game meetings last week leading up to the Kent State game. Kentucky returns to action Saturday hosting Western Kentucky at 6 pm, with pre game coverage beginning at 4:30 on Lite 98.7. The Southeastern Conference has announced Kentucky’s game with Florida September 22nd will kickoff at 11:21 am Hopkinsville time in Gainesville. Meanwhile, Kentucky’s opponent this week, Western Kentucky has recruited a kicker. The Courier Journal says Joseph Occhipinti from Nashville’s Hillsboro High School has become the 12th commitment for 2013 for the Hilltoppers, who have struggled with field goal kicking. In the 2011 season, place kickers missed 15 of 20 field goals and so far this season are 0-3 all coming against Austin Peay. Texas Tech’s returning leading scorer Jordan Tolbert tells ESPN he will not play for the Red Raiders if Billy Gillispie returns as basketball coach. Gillispie has been placed on indefinite sick leave after being recently hospitalized. An investigation is going on into allegations the former Kentucky coach mistreated players. Tennessee Titans coach Mike Munchak is confident quarterback Jake Locker will play Sunday against San Diego. Locker hurt his left—non throwing shoulder in Sunday’s loss to New England. An MRI was performed Monday. The Titans return to practice Wednesday, with coach Munchak saying Locker may split work with back up Matt Hasselbeck. Major League Baseball this evening has St. Louis at San Diego, Atlanta at Milwaukee, Chicago at Houston and Cincinnati entertaining Pittsburgh.
