SPORTS UPDATE 9/6/12

Kentucky football coach Joker Phillips tells the Lexington Herald Leader there will be a number of younger players in the defensive lineup when the Wildcats host Kent State Saturday. Kickoff Saturday night at 6:30 Hopkinsville time, with Countdown to Kickoff at 5 on Lite 98.7

While we’re on UK football, Coach Phillips has instituted a rule that does not allow his players to use Twitter 24 hours before or after a game. The rule was put into place after freshman punter Landon Foster sent out a tweet before Sunday’s game with Louisville calling it a trash dump and freshman running back Dyshawn Mosley following the game commenting on lack of playing time.

The National Football League lost a legendary figure early today, as former
Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns owner Art Modell passed away at the age
of 87. Modell purchased the Cleveland Browns in 1961 for $4 million, an unprecedented sum at that time. The Browns won the NFL Championship in 1964.
Three decades later he uprooted the franchise, moving to Baltimore in 1996.

Major League Baseball this afternoon has Atlanta hosting Colorado, with the Chicago Cubs meeting Washington this evening.
