SPORTS UPDATE 8/30/12

Kentucky football coach Joker Phillips says he’s not worried about Sunday’s weather forecast, which calls for rain from tropical storm Issac to be over Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium.

Phillips says to the Lexington Herald Leader whether rain, cold, snow, heat, ice, the Wildcats will be ready to play against 25th rated Louisville. Kickoff is set for 2:30, with pre game coverage at 1 on Lite 98.7.

It appears Kentucky has become the front runner for former Xavier basketball player Dez Wells, who was reportedly on campus Wednesday afternoon. A source close to Wells tells CBS Sports.com he could commit to Kentucky, but hasn’t as of this morning. One question which remains would be if he would be eligible to play this season.

The NCAA has to make that determination, and with the fact Wells was expelled from Xavier after being arrested on sexual assault charges last week, it would appear unlikely the waiver would be granted, meaning Wells would have to sit out a year.

Major League Baseball action has Milwaukee at Chicago this afternoon, with St. Louis at Washington this evening.

The NFL pre season ends tonight with 13 games on the schedule including the Tennessee Titans hosting the New Orleans Saints at 6 at LP Field.
