High School Football

The 2012 season begins this evening across the Commonwealth. The Hopkinsville Tigers, however, will not begin their regular season until next week. Their opponent for tonight, Lancaster Christian Academy, did not receive its TSSAA classification in time for the start of the season.

Therefore, tonight’s game will be a scrimmage game at 7 in Smyrna, TN, with the Heritage Bank pre game show at 6:35 on Newstalk 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP

The Christian County Colonels open the 2012 season hosting the Madisonville Maroons at the Stadium of Champions. Kickoff at 7, with the Heritage Bank pre game show at 6:35 on Lite 98.7.

Elsewhere this evening: Fort Campbell is at Clarksville High, Trigg County goes to Russellville, Caldwell County entertains Calloway County, Logan County at Butler County, Hopkins Central at Webster County, Henderson County hosts Evansville Reitz, Muhlenberg County at Ohio County, Murray High hosts Lake County, TN, Franklin Simpson hosts Monroe County, Mayfield meets Warren Central and Greenwood meets Trousdale County, TN in the Fruit of the Loom Rivals Bowl in Bowling Green.

The Kentucky High School scoreboard show is back again this season and will air this evening following Hopkinsville’s scrimmage game on Newstalk 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP.

High School Results from Thursday

Boys Soccer:   University Heights defeated Todd Central 5-1. The Blazers return to action today meeting Lone Oak at the Eagles Invitational at Graves County.

Girls Soccer: Hopkinsville shut out Christian County 4-0 in a weather shortened game, UHA’s match with Rossview was stopped to weather, Todd Central defeated Franklin Simpson 4-2, Muhlenberg County edged Logan County 2-1.

Volleyball:   Christian County shutout Fort Campbell 3 sets to none, Hopkinsville defeated Hopkins Central 3 sets to none, University Heights defeated Livingston Central 3 sets to 1 in the first round of the All A Classic, Caldwell County over Madisonville 3-0, Logan County over South Warren 3-1, Webster County shutout Trigg County 3-0.

Golf:   Hopkinsville lost to Daviess County 158-154 in a boys match at Western Hills Thursday. Jack Gardner was medalist, leading the Tigers with a 35. TJ Janes and Dylan Henderson each had 40, Jay Camp 43 and Wade Perry 44.

Christian County played in a tri match with Henderson County and Hopkins Central in Madisonville. Henderson County won with 151, Hopkins Central 156 and Christian County 172. Logan Patterson had 38 and Grainger Greenwell 40 to lead the Colonels.

College Football:   University of Kentucky backup safety Glenn Faulkner underwent surgery to out a screw into his ankle and will miss 6 to 8 weeks. Coach Joker Phillips also announced following Thursday’s practice running back Josh Clemons MRI revealed no structural damage of his surgically repaired right knee. Clemson has sat out the last few practices with swelling on that knee.

NFL:   The Tennessee Titans play their second pre season game tonight in Tampa against former Christian County standout Keith Tandy and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Jake Locker will start at quarterback for the Titans.
