A two-vehicle wreck in Muhlenberg County this morning sent two people to the hospital.

The report from State Police says 45-year old Timothy Richmond of Greenville was southbound on U.S. 431 around 8:30 and stopped to make a left turn.

28-year old Samara Cantrell of Central City was also southbound and did not stop in time to avoid a rear-end collision.

Richmond was taken by ambulance to Muhlenberg Community Hospital, while Ms. Cantrell was taken by private vehicle to the same hospital. A 2-year old passenger of Ms. Cantrell went uninjured in the incident.

A head-on collision in Henry County, Tennessee claimed the life of a Cadiz man yesterday.

The incident happened on U.S. Highway 641 North, according to the report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, which says 44-year old Jeffery West of Mariners Mills Court, Cadiz was southbound in an SUV when he crossed the center line and struck a rollback wrecker driven by 32-year old Kevin Kirk of Robertson Road North, Murray.

The wreck happened around 12:20 in the afternoon and police say West was wearing his seat belt. Kirk was taken to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Clarksville Police arrested a man late last night accused of driving and ultimately passing out drunk with a child on board.

The report says officers were called to Ladd Drive around 11pm to the report of a suspicious vehicle. Upon arrival, they allegedly found 39-year old James Raymond of Beech St., Clarksville passed out in the drivers seat with a bottle of whiskey between his legs.

The report says there was also a five-year old boy asleep in the back seat. Raymond was arrested and charged with Child Abuse, Child Neglect, DUI and driving on a suspended license.

Chester Leavell

Alcohol was allegedly involved in a three-vehicle wreck at the intersection of East 7^th and Lindwood Streets last night that injured two.

The incident happened around 5:30, according to the report from Hopkinsville Police, which says 57-year old Chester Leavell of Hopkinsville was westbound on 7^th and turned left into the path of a vehicle driven by 44-year old Curtis Brame of Hopkinsville, causing Brame’s vehicle to collide with Leavell’s car and a vehicle driven by 47-year old Marilyn Covington of Beech Creek, Kentucky—which was stopped at the stop sign on Lindwood.

Leavell, who was the only driver not requiring a trip to Jennie Stuart Medical Center, reportedly had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and had slurred speech and bloodshot eyes.

He reportedly told police he had drank half a pint of whiskey and told officers to take him to jail. Leavell reportedly blew a .162 on the breath test, over twice the legal limit.

Leavell was charged with DUI and driving without insurance.

The Hopkinsville City Council met tonight for its final meeting of the year.

During tonight’s meeting, an ordinance to finance a new municipal building for the Hopkinsville Police Department passed in its second reading, on a nine to three vote with council members Paul Henson, Charlie Henderson and Ann Cherry voting no.

Prior to voting, councilman Charlie Henderson spoke about his concerns about the ordinance and how it would affect the city’s proposed rails to trails project.

In response to Henderson’s concerns, Mayor Dan Kemp said renovating the municipal building to house the police department took priority over the rails to trails project.

In other business, the council approved the second reading of several ordinances concerning junked vehicles or abandoned vehicles and adopting fireworks regulations.

Council members then went into closed session to discuss litigation and took no action.
