Sears and K-Mart to close at least 100 stores

The holidays were not happy for Sears and K-Mart stores, and many of them won't be around to suffer through another slow holiday shopping season.

It’s unknown what effects, if any, there will be in Hopkisnville and Clarksville, but Sears Holdings says it's closing 100-120 Sears and KMart stores because of a sharp drop in holiday sales compared to last year.

The company says sales at stores open at least a year were off more than five-percent in the eight weeks that ended Christmas Day. The Sears and KMart numbers are in contrast to industry-wide retail sales figures, which were higher than last year's numbers.
