Slain soldier had promising military career
A Fort Campbell soldier who was fatally shot last week had a promising military career.
Post officials say the awards and decorations for 28-year old Sergeant Vincent Edward Goslyn Jr. of Cadillac, Michigan include: The Army Commendation Medal; The Army Achievement Medal; The Army Good Conduct Medal; The National Defense Service Medal; The Afghanistan Campaign Medal; The Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; The Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon and The Army Service Ribbon just to name a few.
Officials say Goslyn was a Quartermaster and Chemical equipment repairer, assigned to 4th Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment, 1-59th Combat Aviation Brigade.
He joined the Army in February 2005 and arrived at Fort Campbell in June 2008.
As previously reported, the 28-year old soldier was found dead Friday night in the 400 block of Fidelio road in Hopkinsville as a result of multiple gunshot wounds.
His wife, Jessie Goslyn and Jarred Tabor Long of Colorado are now charged with his murder.

Pennyrile Citizen's Corps Council creates DART program
The Pennyrile Area Citizen’s Corps Council has created its first disaster animal response team.
According to Regional Operations Manager Frank Brown, FEMA recently mandated additional training to create the pet-friendly program, which will fall under the community emergency response team program.
In addition, Brown says the DART program should reassure pet owners that their four-legged family member will be cared for during a natural disaster.

U.S. Coast Guard moves Delta Mariner
Recreational river traffic is now open in the area where the Delta Mariner crashed into Eggners Ferry Bridge.
According to the U.S. Coast Guard, salvage workers successfully cut the Delta Mariner free from subsurface bridge debris around 10:15 this morning and will continue removing debris now that the ship has been moved a mile away from the crash site.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Jennifer Jessee says the debris removal operation is a five-step process and crews are in phase four in removing debris.
A 25-foot response boat and a crew from the Marine Safety Unit based our of Paducah will remain on site to ensure the safety of salvage operations.
Commercial river traffic at the site has been open for over a week and U.S. Coast Guard officials say the investigation into the cause of the incident is ongoing.

North Christian man charged with rape
Kentucky State Police arrested a north Christian County man accused of rape Sunday.
A news release says Detective Lloyd Ray arrested 47-year old Gene Cotton of Mannington around 12:45 Sunday and charged him with 1st degree rape and two counts of 1st degree sexual abuse.
The female victim told police she had been inappropriately touched and was forced into sexual intercourse by Cotton.
Cotton was arraigned in Christian District Court today and a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf after he said he could not afford an attorney. He will appear for another hearing in District Court this Friday.

Not guilty plea entered for Goslyn
The woman charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of her husband on Fidelio Road Friday night appeared in Christian District Court today via video conferencing.
Christian District Judge Jim Adams explained the charges and asked 25-year old Jessie Goslyn if she could afford an attorney and she only answered “no.”
Judge Adams entered a “not guilty” plea on her behalf and scheduled a preliminary hearing for February 15th in Christian District Court.
Goslyn and 24-year old Jarred Tabor Long are accused of gunning down 28-year old Vincent Goslyn, Jr. near the railroad tracks on Fidelio Road around 8:15 Friday evening.
Vincent Goslyn, Jr. had only been home from Afghanistan since January 31st. Long was arrested Sunday in Colorado and is awaiting an extradition hearing before he can be brought to Christian County.
