Sears and K-Mart to close at least 100 stores

The holidays were not happy for Sears and K-Mart stores, and many of them won't be around to suffer through another slow holiday shopping season.

It’s unknown what effects, if any, there will be in Hopkisnville and Clarksville, but Sears Holdings says it's closing 100-120 Sears and KMart stores because of a sharp drop in holiday sales compared to last year.

The company says sales at stores open at least a year were off more than five-percent in the eight weeks that ended Christmas Day. The Sears and KMart numbers are in contrast to industry-wide retail sales figures, which were higher than last year's numbers.

Police say between 10 and 15 juveniles fled out a side door upon their arrival and that eight juveniles were found inside the residence so intoxicated they required assistance to walk.

Bailey was reportedly the only renter of the home and was charged with possession of a handgun by a minor in addition to his other charges and lodged in the Christian County Jail.

Hart County wreck kills one

A wreck in Hart County Monday morning claimed the life of a Cave City man.

The incident happened around 11:15, according to State Police, who say 46-year old Edward Green of Cave City was westbound on state Highway 88 when he crossed the center line and struck an oncoming vehicle driven by 64-year old Noel Johnston of Munfordville.

Green was taken by ambulance to a landing zone where a helicopter was to pick him up, but police say he died from his injuries before the helicopter took off. He was pronounced dead at 11:49 by the Hart County Coroner.

Johnson is listed in stable condition at the University of Louisville Medical Center after being taken there by helicopter. Police say alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the wreck.
