The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet released its six year road plan yesterday and there are several major projects in the southern Pennyrile included.

Perhaps most notably in Christian County, the northeast bypass project is on the plan. The proposed route would complete a looping bypass around the city instead of the current structure, which becomes a two-lane roadway just east of the Pennyrile Parkway interchange on the north side of Hopkinsville.

Important to Oak Grove is a plan to widen Kentucky 911, which is a two-lane roadway that’s become inadequate for the volume of traffic which travels on it in an average day.

In Trigg County, the replacement of the Lake Barkley Bridges is estimated to cost 165 million dollars, with that much-needed project also on the plan.

The only project from Todd County is reconstruction and widening of Kentucky 181 from the Elkton Square going north to U.S. 68-80. Absent from the list is the reconstruction of the 181-U.S. 79 intersection, which was discussed in a recent public forum in Guthrie.

A North Christian County home was badly damaged by fire this afternoon.

Christian County Emergency Management Director Randy Graham says the fire took place at a residence located in the 1300 block of Moore Road and that fire fighters could see the fire coming from sides and windows of the residence.

Graham says five local fire departments responded to scene and says the home was badly damaged and fire fighters did their best to contain the fire.

The Emergency Management Director says no one was injured as a result of the fire and that fire officials continue to investigate the cause of the blaze.

A Hopkinsville man will be the owner of a brand new home, thanks in part to the hard work and dedication of several local officials who made his dream become a reality.

This Thursday, Hopkinsville Mayor Dan Kemp will be presenting Lawrence James keys to his new home, which is located at 126 South Elm Street.

According to officials, James was able to receive a new home through the city’s home improvement plan since his previous home at the same location was deemed beyond repair and been demolished to make room for the newly constructed home.

Officials say construction was made possible by utilizing the Kentucky Housing Corporation GAP Financing Pool funds and from Community Development Block Grant Recovery funds.

Volunteers continue to be a driving force for the Hopkinsville-Christian County Salvation Army.

Officials with the organization say they are always looking for extra help in keeping programs operational, like at the soup kitchen, which provides dozens of meals to needy individuals who otherwise could not afford a nutritious meal.

Lieutenant David Costellow says volunteers are very important since the organization receives limited funding and relies mostly on generous donations from the public.

According to the Salvation Army Lieutenant, food is not the only thing that is served at the soup kitchen.
Volunteers provide fellowship to individuals, who society as a whole, are seen as cast aways.

Kentucky State Police in Post One is accepting applications for the 2012 KSP Citizens Police Academy.

The 10-week academy is scheduled to take place February 15th and students will meet every Wednesday from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. and will conclude on April 18^th

According to officials, students will learn about patroling, criminal investigations, and drug investigations and will have the opportunity to take part in a simulated law enforcement training.
